VRC Office Hours Update

The Voluntary Resource Centre will be operating under reduced office hours from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. until October 5, 2026.

Our regular office hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. will resume on October 5.

For Charlottetown Meals on Wheels Clients: Payments can be made in person during our reduced office hours or left in our secure mailbox.

The first-ever Raffia Festival was truly something special, and we are so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.

To our amazing volunteers, thank you for showing up, jumping in wherever needed, and helping bring the festival to life. To our behind-the-scenes support team, your work may not always have been visible, but it was absolutely essential. From planning and logistics to set-up, clean-up, coordination, and everything in between, we appreciate you!

A heartfelt thank you to our funders and sponsors for believing in this vision and investing in a celebration of culture here in PEI. Raffia Festival was made possible through funding from the GEDI, Government of Canada Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Program, and the Community Celebration Fund, with generous sponsorship from Provincial Credit Union, the City of Charlottetown, and Island Pure Waters.

We are also incredibly thankful to our community organizations, cultural groups, vendors, performers, partners, and supporters who contributed their time, talent, resources, and encouragement.

And finally, to our community, thank you for coming out, celebrating with us, supporting local vendors, enjoying the performances, and helping create the atmosphere that made Raffia Festival what it was. Your presence reminded us why creating spaces for culture, connection, and community matters.

This festival was more than an event. It was a celebration of culture, identity, community, and belonging, and we could not have done it without you.

This Saturday, August 29, Confederation Landing Park in Charlottetown fills up with food coming out of a different kitchens, live music, dance, storytelling, art, and workshops you can actually jump into.

Marie was a true light in our community and a valued part of the VRC’s history. Her presence, passion, and kindness will be deeply missed.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Marie’s loved ones and to all who had the privilege of knowing her. ❤️

ACIC extends its condolences to the loved ones and community of Marie Burge, who passed on 10 August 2026 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Marie exemplifies everything the not-for-profit sector works and inspires towards: passionate, engaged, dynamic, and above all, caring and fair. Marie’s enthusiasm for her community and her love of justice took her to volunteer and advocacy work in food sovereignty, energy sovereignty, environmental rights, reproductive justice, women’s rights, migrant workers’ rights, universal basic income, proportional representation and democratic structuring, and so much more through her work with the Cooper Institute, the Latin American Mission Program, the Working Group for a Livable Income, the Coalition for the Protection of PEI Lands, Save Our Seas and Shores, Islanders for Proportional Representation, and many others.

She bettered the lives of not just her friends and family, but all who live on PEI. But her scope goes so much further: Marie Burge was one of ACIC’s founding members fifty years ago, and her ground work set our course for the five decades since. The not-for-profit sector of Atlantic Canada wouldn’t be what it is without her work, and all she has done reverberates on the national and international stage.

Marie has been recognized several times over, including the 1998 Medal of Merit from the Order of PEI, the Leo Cheverie Lifetime Achievement Award from the Voluntary Resource Council in 2025, and also received the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the Governor General of Canada in 2025.

We extend our condolences to all of Marie Burge’s loved ones and with the PEI not-for-profit community.
