Asi/iea ASI is a year-round, bilingual hub advancing policy, community practice, and shared learning.

ASI connects people and evidence to drive upstream action across Atlantic Canada. https://linktr.ee/atlanticsummmerinstitute The learning opportunities offered through the ASI are intended to build participants' capacity to positively impact the determinants of health in their communities, and more broadly in their region, province and country. Evidence-based research de

monstrates action on the determinants is necessary to address health inequalities and to build healthy, safe, inclusive and sustainable communities. The determinants framework expressly recognizes the importance to health of factors such as income and social status; education and literacy; employment and working conditions; gender; and social environments - including civic and community institutions - most of the same factors affecting the ability of women to fully participate in the economic, social and democratic life of Canada.

ASI 2026 is a wrap. 🌊

Three days. Four provinces. Two languages. Hundreds of conversations that mattered.

We came together to ask what it really takes to shape a culture of wellbeing for present and future generations. The answer, as always at ASI, was each other.

This year we also celebrated 40 years of the Ottawa Charter and 30 years of the Circle of Health. Two milestones. One shared commitment to upstream action.

Thank you to everyone who was part of it. See you next year. 💙

Final morning of ASI 2026 and the energy is incredible. Four concurrent workshops running simultaneously this morning, each one tackling a different piece of the upstream puzzle:

🏫 All Hands on Deck: A Whole-School Approach to Mental Wellness (Nova Scotia Health)
🔗 Making Complex Issues Tangible: Connecting the Dots Between Experience and Policy (ASI/Leading Impact, PEI)
🛡 Upstream, Cross-Sector Approaches to Strengthen Exploitation Prevention (EVENforONE, PEI)
❤️ Care for Caretakers (FireLoch, Antigonish, NS)

Different rooms, different topics, one shared commitment: building communities where everyone can thrive.

This is what three days of upstream thinking at ASI looks like. Proud to be in this room — all four of them. 🌊

Just wrapped one of the most energizing sessions of ASI 2026. Provincial discussions happening simultaneously across all four Atlantic provinces — Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI — asking the same powerful questions at the same time: What is happening in my community? What whole-of-society approaches are actually working? Who are the champions driving change?

The dialogue, the collaboration, the energy in that room was something else. This is what upstream thinking looks like when it gets real and gets local.

A huge thank you to the facilitators who made it happen: Karen Clarke (NL), Jenna Kedy (NS), Brian Kelly (NB), Lynne Lund (PEI), and Lesley Dyck (Online).

And we left with a commitment — one action each of us will take when we get home.

That is ASI. 🌊

One of the standout moments at ASI 2026 today came from Noah Moss of CreativePEI , who spoke about the ArtMobile as a real-world example of community wellbeing in action.

The ArtMobile is a travelling event where everyone is welcome — a space to create, connect, chat, seek advice, and get inspired. Supplies are provided, and the only requirement is showing up. It is exactly the kind of upstream, community-driven initiative that ASI exists to celebrate and amplify.

Art is not a luxury. It is a condition for wellbeing. And Creative PEI is proving that every time the ArtMobile pulls into a community.

Day two of ASI 2026 is underway and the conversations are getting even richer. This morning's opening plenary is tackling one of the most important questions of our time: how do we respond to the polycrisis at the local level?

Incredible voices in the room today including Chief Chris George of Eel River Bar (NB), Maggie Snow from The SPLASH Centre (NL), Martine Haché from CBPA Inc. (NB), Lauren Salim from Halifax Regional Municipality (NS), and Noah Moss from Creative PEI. Different regions, different sectors, one shared commitment to community-driven change.

This is what upstream thinking looks like in action. 🌊
