Today, we pause to honour Survivors, remember the truth of what happened, and commit ourselves to meaningful reconciliation.

Reconciliation isn't passive. It requires us to listen, to learn, and to take action in our communities. At Onward, we recognize that building safe, inclusive housing and communities means acknowledging the past and working together toward a more just future.

We encourage everyone to take time today to listen to Survivors' stories, educate ourselves, and ask: how can we do better in our own spaces, our own workplaces, our own communities?

This Labour Day, we celebrate the people who make our mission real, our team members who show up with heart and dedication every single day.

Whether you're maintaining homes, coordinating operations, or connecting residents to support, you're the reason families have a safe place to belong.

It takes more than work. It takes care. Thank you for bringing both.

Our office will be closed on Monday, September 7th, and reopen on Tuesday, September 8th.

In the private sector, a building is budgeted, managed, and maintained as a financial asset.

At Onward, a building is far more than a budget line item, its where families build futures and find stability.

We don't maintain for the sake of structure or profitability.
We maintain to ensure that families currently on Calgary's waiting list eventually have a dignified and permanent door to unlock.

That's the difference between managing buildings and serving people.

Onward was pleased to welcome MP Caroline Desrochers, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, for a visit and tour of our Currie 1 project.

Currie 1 is being developed through the Federal Lands Initiative, in partnership with the Government of Canada, helping transform public land into much-needed affordable homes for Calgarians.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to showcase the progress underway and to highlight what can be achieved when governments and housing providers work together to create more affordable housing and stronger communities.

We've designed a project to reduce emissions by 25% across a portion of our portfolio. But this isn't about checking a sustainability box.

Our residents are among Calgary's most vulnerable, exposed to heat waves, energy price spikes, and the impossible choice between heating and eating. When energy costs spike, families on fixed incomes face a real threat: stability or survival.

By improving building performance, we're reducing the energy burden that threatens to push people back into homelessness. We're not just saving carbon. We're saving residences. We're saving homes.

Climate justice means protecting the people most affected by climate change.

Our apartment building is 80-85% framed, with roofing in August. Concrete decks are underway, and rough-ins are on schedule.

Meanwhile, our townhome projects are advancing through their structural phases, with framing timelines locked in for the coming weeks.

Each milestone brings us closer to delivering 100+ new affordable homes to Calgary.

From foundation to final turnover, we're building with precision, quality, and purpose - creating homes that provide stability for the families who need them most.

For years, we had the data. We knew what our buildings needed. But we were stuck asking the wrong question: How do we pay for this?

The shift came when we changed our lens, leading with resident satisfaction rather than cost, then mapping our needs against available funding. That simple reframing unlocked capital we didn't know existed.

Moving from paralyzed to purposeful isn't about having more money. It's about asking better questions.
