We're excited to invite residents, neighbours, and community members to a special Neighbour Day celebration and the official launch of Growing Seasons at Bishop's Manor!

Growing Seasons is a community-driven initiative that supports residents in growing food during Calgary's short growing season through cold frames, season-extension techniques, and shared knowledge.

Rooted in food sovereignty and neighbour-to-neighbour learning, this project centres resident leadership, cultural food knowledge, and dignified access to fresh food.

Exciting progress on our Currie development!

Here's what's been accomplished:
✅ Suspended slab poured
✅ Exterior columns being poured, skirting strip starting this weekend
✅ Slab survey scheduled for early next week
✅ Structural steel arriving Wednesday
✅ Wall panels arriving Thursday

This project is moving forward on schedule, bringing us closer to delivering new affordable homes for Calgarians.

Big week at Currie 1!

Last week, we reached a major construction milestone with the slab-on-grade pour.

This foundation - both literally and figuratively - sets the stage for everything that follows, and seeing it come together was a proud moment for the Onward team.

"I've enjoyed my time at work. It's an opportunity to make a real difference."

These words capture Ali's dedication after 17 years with Onward.

As a leader on our Building Services team, he's been ensuring that residents have safe, clean, comfortable homes. He knows what it means to need affordable housing. And he's dedicated to providing that same stability for others.

He was starting at square one.

17 years later, his daughters are thriving professionals. His son is in school.
And Ali? His journey from Onward resident to one of Onward's most dedicated leaders is truly inspiring!

This is what stability looks like.
This is what's possible when you have a safe home and the support to build on it.

In February 2025, Onward proudly opened the doors to 29 new homes in Killarney, designed specifically for women and children in Calgary who need them most.

29 doors opened.
29 opportunities given.
29 families gaining the foundation to build from.

When we give safety, families gain strength. When we give housing, communities gain hope.

In 2008, Ali arrived in Canada fleeing war in Lebanon.
He moved into Onward's Horizon West building, not knowing what lay ahead.

Today, he oversees 11 buildings, 4 houses and a team of 9.
Ensuring every resident has the safe, clean home he once desperately needed.

"It's an opportunity to make a real difference," Ali says.

That's the power of affordable housing. It's not just a place to rest your head. It's a foundation for building a life, a career, and a future.
