Yesterday, members of CUPS leadership and staff spent National Day for Truth and Reconciliation remembering, learning, reflecting and engaging in community events across Calgary.
We began the day at The Confluence for the City of Calgary’s opening ceremony, which included remarks, a moment of silence, and cultural performances. Displayed at the ceremony was an orange memorial banner that held the names of children who were lost to residential schools, and space left open to acknowledge those children that were never found.
Following the ceremony, we joined the Pokaiks Reconciliation Walk, walking together in honour of survivors of residential schools, the children who never made it home, and the ongoing journey toward truth, healing and reconciliation.
It was a meaningful day and a reminder that Truth and Reconciliation requires continued commitment and action beyond September 30th. At CUPS, we remain grounded in this ongoing journey, committed to listening, learning and taking meaningful action.
