Our South Director, Ricardo de Menezes, recently had the incredible opportunity to connect with the 2026 YIP participants here in Calgary.
Eighteen bright and enthusiastic individuals from across BC and Alberta gathered together to learn about UFCW and the labour movement. It was inspiring to see not only young activists from Save-on-Foods, the cannabis sector, and even ice cream in BC from UFCW Local 1518, but a wide array of community connected diverse individuals as well. Many familiar faces from our own local were part of this group, hailing from Superstore, Olymel, FreshCo, Safeway, and more!
Ricardo was proud and honoured to share his journey, to reflect on his own experiences in the YIP program 19 years ago, to bring greetings from Tom, Richelle, and our local, and to witness attendees' enthusiasm for organizing, community engagement, and learning. As he puts it: "I walk away feeling both very old and invigorated!"
