We are a member of Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. The organization currently has 10,500 clubs with 211,000 members in 90 countries. Through its member clubs, Toastmasters International helps individuals learn the art of speaking, listening and thinking - skills vital in promoting self actualization, enhancing leadership potential and fostering human understanding.

🌟 Congratulations to our Shining Stars of the Week!

Facing our fears can begin with something as simple as standing up to speak while still feeling nervous. At our October 27 meeting, themed “Facing Our Fears,” we celebrated the willingness to try, learn, and support one another, with costumes and Halloween treats adding to the fun! 🎃

Maryknoll invited us to consider “What if,” Dan shared a touching story about his father, and James asked us to reflect on what we’re afraid of. Each speech gave us something different to think about and an opportunity to understand someone else’s experience.

That learning continued through impromptu speaking and thoughtful evaluations. Speaking gives us practice, listening helps us understand, and feedback helps us see what we can work on next.

These ribbons celebrate progress made possible by both individual effort and a supportive club. Thank you to our members and guests for listening, participating, and encouraging one another. Having people beside us can make the next brave step feel a little more possible. 💛

📖 WORD OF THE DAY: AUDACIOUS

Audacious (adjective): willing to take risks or do something that others might consider too difficult or unconventional.

Synonyms: bold, daring, courageous, and adventurous.

💬 Examples:
• She made an audacious decision to enter the speech contest despite her fear of public speaking.
• His audacious idea encouraged the team to try a different approach.

Our meeting theme, “Facing Our Fears,” was a fitting match for this word. Trying something new can feel intimidating, but we don’t always need to have every answer before we begin.

It’s not how we start, but how we finish. Eunice’s inspiring speech brought this message to life at our October 20 meeting, themed “The Final Mile.”

A difficult start doesn’t have to define the rest of our journey. We can learn from what happened, keep practising, and give ourselves another chance. Having people beside us who offer encouragement and honest feedback can help us keep going.

Our meeting reflected that shared effort. Members brought their stories, took on unexpected questions, and offered thoughtful evaluations. For some, it was also a chance to take on a new role and learn by doing.

Congratulations to our ribbon recipients, and thank you to everyone who helped make the evening a meaningful one! 👏

Steadfast (adjective): firmly committed to a purpose or belief; not easily discouraged or persuaded to change.

Synonyms: resolute, unwavering, committed, and loyal.

• She remained steadfast in her determination to become a more confident speaker.
• His steadfast support encouraged his fellow members to keep practising.

Our meeting theme, “The Final Mile,” reminded us of the commitment it takes to keep going, especially when reaching a goal feels difficult. Sometimes, being steadfast means simply showing up and trying again.

🎁 Giving, Gratitude—and a Little Gift-Stealing! 💛

What a meeting! We’re grateful to every member and guest who bestowed their time, energy and encouragement on our club.

Leena introduced our Word of the Day, BESTOW, and it certainly got a workout! Three members tied for the most uses—though Twila squeezed in one more after the ballots closed. 😉

With Twila chairing and Annette guiding us as Toastmaster, the evening brought heartfelt speeches, laughter and plenty of learning.

🧱 Maryknoll encouraged us to tear down the walls we subconsciously build, brick by brick. Her moving message earned her Best Speaker! We also learned about the new 2026–27 incentive program through an informative, software-assisted presentation.

🏝️ Luknam’s gift-giving Table Topics took a hilarious turn when Tzonka decided to keep the all-expenses-paid vacation for herself! Tony offered an extra hour each day, while Stewart offered the ability to see the good in others. Tzonka’s cheeky getaway earned her Best Table Topics!

👏 Ose, our General Evaluator, led the feedback portion, with thoughtful evaluations from Eva, Josh and Tzonka. Josh stepped into his role that afternoon and went home with Best Evaluator!

🌟 The Meaning in Adversity 🌟

How can we find meaning in the challenges we face? That question set the tone for our latest Calgary Pace Setters meeting, with tenacity as our word of the day!

🎤 Vesna explored leadership and DTM opportunities beyond the club, while Annette took us along on her trip to Newgrange. Mel’s Table Topics challenged Lena, Alex, and Wannie to think on their feet.
