As many of you may know, the Cranston Residents Association was awarded a matching grant through the YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) in support of renovating our current splash park. We are thrilled to share the final splash park designs and upcoming next steps with the Cranston community.
The renovated splash park will feature all-new water elements with a fun, nature-inspired theme. While the overall footprint of the park will remain the same, the redesigned layout will better utilize the entire space by expanding features into the back half of the current park area.
The front half of the splash park has been thoughtfully designed for younger children, with age-appropriate features that include lower-height spray elements and gentler water flow options. The back half of the park will offer more exciting features for older children and youth, including larger spray structures, water rockets, and higher-flow water play experiences.
Accessibility and inclusive play were also important priorities in the redesign process. The updated splash park will include an accessibility-friendly ramp with zero-depth entry to help improve access for individuals of all ages and abilities. Careful consideration was also given to selecting water features that are easy to navigate, engage with, and enjoy for a wide range of mobility levels and sensory needs.
The overall aesthetic was inspired by Cranston’s beautiful natural surroundings and incorporates playful nature-themed elements such as flowers, frogs, butterflies, and more to create a vibrant and engaging space for families to enjoy.
The next phase of the project is scheduled to begin in late June and will include demolition of the current spray deck in preparation for construction. Unfortunately, this means the splash park will not be accessible during summer 2026 as we move through the various phases of construction.
While the overall park space will remain open, a significant portion of the area will be fenced off to allow for safe construction access, staging, and project work. We kindly ask all residents and visitors to respect all posted signage and fencing restrictions while using the park this summer.
As the project progresses, we will continue to keep the community updated and share important milestones along the way. We sincerely appreciate your patience and support throughout this exciting transformation and cannot wait to unveil the completed splash park to the community next summer.
