☀️ WHO’S YOUR GO-TO FOR A SKIN CHECK AROUND THE BAYSIDE?

With spring almost here and the warmer Queensland weather on its way, now is a timely reminder to check the skin you’re in.

If you live in Wynnum, Manly, Lota, Wynnum West, Manly West, Tingalpa, Hemmant or anywhere around Brisbane’s Bayside, where do you go for a thorough skin check?

Do you have a local doctor, dermatologist or skin-check clinic you trust and would genuinely recommend? Please tag them below and share your experience. 👇

The places pictured are simply a few local options I found through Google—I haven’t personally visited or recommended them. We would really love to hear from locals who have.

Sadly, many of us know someone who has been affected by melanoma or another form of skin cancer. If you’ve had a spot detected early or a skin check that made a difference, please share your story if you feel comfortable.

❤️ Your recommendation or story might encourage someone to book the appointment they’ve been putting off—and it just might save a life.

If something on your skin is new, changing or simply doesn’t seem right, please don’t ignore it. Have it checked by a doctor.

💔 REST IN PEACE, DOLLY PARTON 💔

We will forever love your songs, your beautiful heart and the joy you brought to generations around the world.

There was always something extra special about Dolly and Kenny Rogers singing together. “Islands in the Stream” will forever be one of my favourites. 🎶🤍

Rest peacefully, Dolly Parton 🙏💔

Thank you for the music and the memories.

🥐☕️ A LITTLE MORE WYNNUM GOSSIP… THE JOY IS OUT! 💙

When Ilo Bakehouse first opened its doors, the team asked for a little breathing room while they tested everything, found their feet and eased through their soft opening.

Of course, we completely understood — every new business deserves a little time to settle in.

But apparently, you can’t hold Wynnum, Manly and the Bayside back when fresh pastries and great coffee are involved! 😂

The local feedback is already rolling in, and word on the street is that the food and coffee are unreal. We’ve also heard there may be gluten-free options available, so please check with the Ilo team about the day’s selection and individual dietary requirements.

And here’s the lovely story behind the name…

“Ilo” is the Finnish word for joy. 🥰

Who doesn’t need a little more joy in their life — particularly when it comes wrapped in pastry and served with coffee?

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to Daniel Bowles, Tram Phan and the entire Ilo Bakehouse team! What a wonderful response from the community and a beautiful new addition to our Wynnum waterfront. 💙👏

WOW! 😲🦞💜🩷 I didn’t even know lobsters came in pink and purple!

Fisherman Joseph Kramer caught this incredible “cotton candy” lobster—estimated to be just one in 100 million!

Joseph, with luck like that, you’d better put a Lotto ticket on! 🤣🍀

Joseph Kramer was hauling the last of roughly 20 lobster traps off New Castle, New Hampshire, on July 21, 2024, when he pulled up a lobster patterned in blue, lavender, pink, and purple.

It was his first solo season.

Kramer initially thought he had caught a rare blue lobster, but staff at the Seacoast Science Center identified the healthy male as an even rarer “cotton candy” lobster.

The colors come from pigmentation.

Lobsters normally carry layers of the carotenoid pigment astaxanthin that contribute red, yellow, and blue tones, combining into the mottled coloration that helps them blend into the seafloor.

Genetic variations can change how those pigments are expressed, producing unusually vivid shells like this one.

The Science Center estimates cotton candy coloration at roughly one in 100 million, though that figure reflects possible gene-expression patterns rather than a direct count of wild lobsters.

Its bright shell also reduces camouflage.

Kramer donated the lobster to the center in Rye, where it joined other rare-colored lobsters used for public education.
