As the deadly wildfires continue to ravage through the forests of East Kalimantan in Borneo, our teams are on the ground doing everything they can to help fight the fires and rescue vulnerable orangutans from danger.

We are so grateful to our amazing teams for their strength, bravery and commitment as the severe Godzilla El Niño continues to bring one of the driest seasons Indonesia has seen in years.

Come along on forest patrol with the Tiger Patrol team in Koto Rajo, West Sumatra! 🥾 🐅

Their mission: protect Sumatran tigers and the forests they call home.

On a recent patrol, the team updated an old trail camera, documented signs of incredible wildlife like sun bears, and destroyed deadly wire snares.

Sam was found scavenging for food in roadside garbage. His safety was at risk, and he was dangerously close to conflict with humans.

To give Sam the best chance of survival, our team made the call: translocate him to the safety of Gunung Batu Mesangat protected forest in Borneo.

Translocation is a last resort, but for Sam, it meant the difference between life and death.

The moment he was released, he headed straight for the canopy. Foraging, alert, and moving deeper into the forest with confidence. 🌿

Thanks to supporters like you, Sam is now living wild, safe and free. Thank you for giving Sam a second chance 🧡

It's a coffee plant! ☕

150 coffee plants have been grown in Sanglap Village in Sumatra to provide cuttings for farmers who want to grow coffee as a new source of income. Recent visits from the Mobile Education Unit confirm that the plants are growing beautifully!

A small plant with big potential for farmers and their families. Thank you for making this important work possible 🧑‍🌾💚

This cushioning helps them move in near silence. Tigers rely on ambush hunting, getting as close as possible before the final pounce. Nature's stealthiest hunters!

This Sumatran tiger footprint was spotted by our patrol teams in the forests of Sumatra!

To celebrate the best day of the year, little Jane wanted to give you all a big kiss to say thank you for helping rescue her, and for giving her a second chance at freedom. 😘💕

Every orangutan rescued, rehabilitated, and released back into the wild is one step away from the edge of Extinction for one of the most intelligent, self-aware great apes in the world. Our beautiful, frizzy, and loveable orange cousins. Like gorgeous little Jane here!

🔥 Borneo Wildfire Emergency Response 🔥

A severe El Niño, some scientists are calling it a "Godzilla" El Niño, has brought one of the driest seasons Indonesia has seen in years. Fires are spreading fast, and Borneo's rainforests are right in the danger zone.

Our APE Crusader team are on standby, ready to rush to the frontline and keep fires at bay. And we need your help to get the team ready for what's next.

Because the dry season isn't finished. Two hectares of the Lebanan rainforest in East Borneo are already damaged, and the conditions that caused this fire haven't changed. More fires are coming, putting orangutans, communities and precious rainforests at risk.

Right now, only half our APE Crusader team has the gear they need to respond fast and stay safe on the frontline.

We're still short:

🪖 10 firefighting helmets
🧤 10 protective uniforms (boots, masks, gloves)
💧 30 portable oxygen units
🔦 10 headlamps
🚒 2 water pumps
🚒 3 fire hoses

🔥 Urgent: on Thursday 13 August, a wildfire started tearing through the Tumbit Dayak Village, bordering the Labanan rainforest in East Borneo.

Our APE Crusader team moved fast, joining forces with the Indonesian Army, Manggala Agni Berau Barat, Labanan Fire and Rescue Service, and local fire-response crews. Together, they are fighting through smoke and heat to hold the line and protect the communities in the fire's path.

The fire has been temporarily contained, but the threat is not over. Two hectares of rainforest has already been damaged, habitat that orangutans and countless other species depend on to survive.

The dry season continues. More fires are coming, and our teams needs support before the next one starts.

We have some amazing news to share!

Paluy the rescued and released orangutan was spotted on trail camera, thriving in the wild! 🦧

This is exciting news because thanks to our amazing community, Paluy was rescued from a life-threatening situation in mid 2024. Found on a palm oil plantation, Paluy was injured, starving, and fighting for his life.

At our BORA rescue centre in East Borneo, Paluy received urgent medical care, and was given the chance to heal. In January 2025, he was released back into the wild.

Now, two years after his rescue, Paluy is living the safe, wild life he was born to have. All because you, our kind community, gave him a second chance. 🙏

Have you met Rahayu?

She is absolutely thriving on Sentrum Island in West Kalimantan, Borneo, where she shares her days with two orangutan companions. Her foraging skills have progressed SO much, that she now regularly finds a wide variety of wild foods on her own, including fruits, termites, and the nutritious inner stems of Simpur trees.

Rahayu has a visual impairment, which means she is sometimes more comfortable on the ground rather than high up in the canopy, but she's never let that dampen her spirit or her progress one bit. She continues to explore her island home with confidence and character, embracing life in her own unique way.
