Saving Our Snake-Necked Turtle Join us in saving our snake-necked turtles in South-west WA through citizen science! www.sosnt.net.au

Saving Our Snake-Necked Turtle (SOSNT) is a citizen science driven conservation project that aims to upskill the community in turtle monitoring and protection to ensure the species flourishes into the future. The project will identify hotspots where threats to the species are occurring, enabling targeted management actions to be developed and implemented. The core aims of the Saving Our Snake-Necked Turtle project since inception in July 2022 are to:
• liaise with project partners and local councils to educate their communities;
• increase community use of TurtleSAT to record turtle sightings;
• recruit and train volunteer turtle trackers, and;
• activate the turtle trackers to monitor and protect female turtles and their nests around partner wetlands.

🐢 Fun Fact: The southwestern snake-necked , also known as Chelodina , boasts a distinctive long neck and a shell that increases in size as they age. 🐢

Adult shells typically measure between 15-30 cm in length, making them one of the more moderate-sized turtles. Their unique appearance and impressive adaptability make them truly fascinating creatures!

The SOSNT team are looking for like-minded individuals and organisations to support our citizen science and education programs.

With your help we can ensure the continued and expanded education awareness and training across the range of the southwestern snake-necked turtle.

These programs help fill critical species data gaps and give volunteers the tools to protect and monitor our turtles for generations.
