BREAKING: CAMPAIGNERS SENTENCED FOR STINK BOMB EVACUATION
This morning, Kristen, Joana and Emil avoided fines and jail time for their part in stinking out the Woodside building in 2023, instead receiving suspended sentences or community service for the action.
The Magistrate cited the campaigner's altruistic intentions and general good character in her remarks explaining the sentences.
After the outcome, Joana said:
"As people of privilege, it is our duty to call out Woodside for its destruction of climate and culture that they are perpetrating at Murujuga."
In response to reporters asking if the three regretted their actions, Emil said:
"[The Burrup Hub] is the biggest fossil fuel project in the Southern Hemisphere and we need to stop this to protect the planet and protect future generations... People are dying because of the climate crisis right now.
"I would like to ask: Is Woodside sorry for the deaths that it will cause from six billion tonnes of CO2?
"Is Woodside sorry to the people who have lost their homes and loved ones?
"Is Woodside sorry to the Traditional Custodians when their artwork is being defaced, destroyed due to the Burrup Hub's emissions?
"I think Woodside should be sorry for the climate catastrophe that is happening right here in our state."
Kris said:
"The biggest threat to Woodside's workers is Woodside.
"People who are having children are more than concerned about what will be released on their children in the near term.
"We have never intended to harm anybody, what we have intended to do is raise the level of consciousness of the people across Australia.
"Right now, thousands of people across Australia are protesting against the extension of the North West Shelf up on the Burrup Hub in our state because we now know how catastrophic it is to life."
The campaigners urged all others who are able to pick up the mantle of opposing Woodside's Burrup Hub, and did not rule out further action which would risk their imprisonment.
Big ups to Kris, Jo and Emil! 🫶
