Yay it's democracy sausage time.

To quote the Conservation Council of WA:

"Nature needs your vote.

In 2025 alone, WA has suffered two cyclones, coral bleaching at Ningaloo, and bushfires.

There are live proposals to clear precious jarrah forests and banksia woodlands for mining, which is critical habitat for endangered species.

There are also plans to dredge Cockburn Sound to make way for nuclear-powered submarines, and two major gas proposals under assessment - which will lock in 6 billion tonnes of climate pollution until 2070.

We also discovered that Perth’s drinking water is under threat from contamination from forest mining.

We need people in power who will stand up for our environment for present and future generations.

This election is our opportunity to do just that.

Find out where the parties stand here: https://www.ccwa.org.au/wascorecards "

Vote wisely. πŸ’šπŸΈ

A day in the life of an activist!

WAPOL was called on us last Saturday while we peacefully protested the demise of the urban wetland.

Of course we were doing the right thing and the officers were fantastic to us 😁

Hey, did you know that we're so thankful for your support yesterday at our art exhibit x action, whether it's from near or far or wherever you are.

Special shout out to Noongar Elder Daniel Garlett, Hon. Dr Brad Pettitt MLC of the Greens, Dr George Crisp of Doctors for the Environment Australia, City Farm founder Rosanne Scott, and Hon. Jim Scott MLC of the Greens for their inspiring words of encouragement.

We're also so thankful to the kids (and grown ups) who contributed their art pieces to enliven the bounds of the construction site/walkway outside the The Art Gallery of Western Australia.

And of course we're ever so thankful for Associate Professor Swampy Plant for running the whole exhibition. And artist Rosie for facilitating the creative process.

Only so much can be conveyed via the Instagram grid with how much fun that was!

PS - we're still wondering, where art thou dear wetland?

Here's a selection of cool videos from our art exhibition x action yesterday at the Perth Cultural Centre.

Such a strong display of good vibes and support from those who came to view our art exhibition, held in celebration of World Wetlands Day 2025.

What a gorgeous afternoon to spend with the people who are so passionate about rewilding urban areas of Boorloo/Perth with the original habitat of wetlands and retaining what is already here.

Why do we love wetlands so much and are campaigning to save our slice of urban treasure at the Perth Cultural Centre?

β€’ The scenes and associations of wetlands have contributed in vital ways to the artistic heritage of most and perhaps all cultures around the world.
β€’ Cultural values and community participation contribute to positive conservation outcomes forinternationally designated wetlands.
β€’ The natural beauty and diversity of animal and plant life in many wetlands make them ideallocations for recreational activities. This generates significant income that benefits localcommunities and helps promote the sustainable management of the wetlands concerned.
β€’ While tourism has many potential benefits for conservation, it also can have negative impactson wildlife and habitats. Development of tourism infrastructure within the wetland or immediately
around it, such as hotels, restaurants and parking areas, may directly affect the health of awetland ecosystem, and so too may the uncontrolled presence of people in fragile habitats,
which may cause disturbance or damage to wildlife.
β€’ Unsustainable tourism and recreation developments are a significant cause of wetland lossand degradation in many countries.
β€’ Wetlands attract diverse recreational uses, generating significant income that benefits local communities and helps promote the sustainable management of the wetlands concerned. But careful planningis needed to ensure that visitation rates and activities are ecologically and socially sustainable.
β€’ Cultural practices and traditions can play a significant role in securing the conservation and wise use of wetlands. Indigenous and local knowledge as well as citizen scientists are already invaluable resources on the state of wetlands and can be used more.

🐸🐸🐸 Sun 2 Feb - World Wetlands Day

Time for another action on World Wetlands Day. While our cries to keep the current wetland has fallen on the deaf ears of our political leaders, we are on the search of a new one.

Join us at 430pm at the now boarded up "wetlands" close to the Art Gallery of WA. Bring your watering cans and gloves and we’ll go searching through the Perth Cultural Centre for a wetland - and creating art and awareness as we go!

Yikes.. We are very worried about the welfare of our critter friends! We’ve written to the WA Government, asking questions about the relocation of fauna and the fauna reliant on water.

We haven’t heard back and we want answers.

How can we be assured that our wildlife sanctuary and animal friends will be kept safe throughout the construction process?

Please keep writing to the politicians who have their positions on the line this coming March elections for change.

We want this wetland saved or replaced!

Happy new year! If you have a spare 5 minutes during the break, you can help us by writing an email to at least 5 politicians who can influence the outcome for the Perth Cultural Centre Wetland and redevelopment plans.

It is super important that we do this because it's an election year for the State politicians. Part of a politician's job is to listen and consider what the people want. Besides, they should also care about scoring every possible vote for the upcoming elections.

Remember, we are rapidly counting down to the demolition of this wetland, with construction works starting on 6 Jan. Every email counts.

Which politicians should you write to?
1) a State politician who looks after your area where you reside.
Find your MP here
https://www.parliament.wa.gov.au/parliament/memblist.nsf/WAMembers
2) John Carey because the frogs live in his jurisdiction
[email protected]
[email protected]
3) David Templeman because the redevelopment works fall under his portfolio
[email protected]
4) Roger Cook because he's the boss-man until next election
[email protected]
[email protected]
5) Anyone of your choosing really 🀣

We have pre written an email here for you to copy and paste and make your own, or link in bio.
Apparently it's more effective if you personalise your email to these politicians, so feel free to edit it as you see fit and attach your own photos of the wetland for extra pizzazz.

Thank you all for your continued support xx πŸΈπŸŽ‰
