Native Animal Rescue was WA`s first purpose built wildlife hospital in 2015 th

rough the generosity of a Lotterywest grant. We rely totally on public donations, funds raised through our own fundraising activities and incidental funding grants from other sources. Founded in 1982 Native Animal Rescue is headquartered on a 15 hectare natural bush site in Malaga. Native Animal Rescue cares for more than 4,200 native animals in need each year. This includes native birds, mammals, reptiles, and frogs. We have state-of-the-art facilities to cater for:

- Rehabilitation of black cockatoos and waterbirds,
- Undertaking research on animals such as woylies
- Wildlife Veterinary Hospital
- Translocation projects with DPaW

How cute our these tiny banded lapwings.

Unfortunately their nest was destroyed by developers and their parents left and didn't return. 😔

Luckily someone noticed these babies and called Western Australian Seabird Rescue who rescued them and brought them to us.

They are now in care with us and will learn everything they need to know about how to be a banded lapwing so when they are bigger they can go back to the wild.

Yesterday we hosted a corporate day for the teams Perth Airport and Perth Duty Free

The sun was shining and the shovels were out! Two gardens got a complete makeover and look amazing! Thank you so much for the Perth Airports teams for joining us and for all their hard work.

This beautiful bobtail was found skinny and unwell by a member of public. Unfortunately it was suffering from bobtail flu and other health issues. But after a lot of care and treatment from our amazing team the time has come to be released back into the wild.

Patients like this can often be in rehabiliation for a long time before they are ready to be released and it is such a testament to our team taking such an unwell animal and bringing it back to full health.

It's ready to go 👏🏼 Thank you so much to Leon and his team from Floworx Plumbing & Filtration and their partners. Yesterday we shared the progress and today it's ready to go!

This filtration system lets us use our bore water for multiple parts of the wildlife hospital including the waterbird wing and all our resident animals enclosures.

Upgrades like this make all the difference to the wildlife hospital and we couldn't be happier!

A huge thank you to Leon and his team at Floworx Plumbing & Filtration this set up will save us thousands in water bills and give us amazing clean filtered water (and water pressure) for our waterbirds wing and resident animals. Upgrading systems like this make a huge difference to the day to day runnings of the hospital.

Unfortunately we still treat wildlife for bait poisoning regularly. 😔

Baits used to kill rodents don't discriminate, they kill wildlife too.

Here's how you can be wildlife friendly:

Prevent: Seal gaps with wire mesh and keep yards free from food waste so pest rodents aren't attracted in the first place.

Traps: Use classic mechanical snap-traps or live traps placed safely indoors away from native wildlife.

Safer Baits: If poisons are a absolute last resort, choose non-anticoagulant products (like Ratsak Naturals) or First-Generation Anticoagulants (like Warfarin), and always use tamper-proof bait stations indoors.

❌ What to avoid:
Avoid all Second-Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (SGARs) containing ingredients like brodifacoum, bromadiolone, or flocoumafen (often labeled "Fast Action" or "Rapid Kill").

⚠️ Safe Disposal: Have old poison at home? Don't throw it in the trash, contact your local council for safe chemical disposal options to stop these toxins from entering the food chain!

Together, we can protect our native wildlife.

This is the reality OUR CHILDREN now face because the wildlife rehabilitation
sector is at breaking point.

Wildlife admissions are rising by 10-15% every year, while wildlife hospitals and
rehabilitators continue to rely on volunteers, donations and fundraising to survive.
Without sustainable government funding, wildlife will continue to suffer.

This beautiful galah found herself stuck in a chimney. Lucky she was rescued by our friends at Western Australian Seabird Rescue. Being in a chimney can cause respiratory issues in birds and they need treatment to make a full recovery. If you do have a bird stuck in your chimney please take to your nearest wildlife centre .

If you have a chimney help keep our feathered friends out. The best thing to do is purchase or make a chimney cap, bird guard cowl, or wire mesh screen. These devices block entry while still allowing smoke and air to escape.
