Team work makes owls in warehouses easier to catch 😂🦉

A beautiful barn owl was stuck in a warehouse, after a few days the workers called it into as it couldn’t get out by itself.

It was a large warehouse with one exit. Our first plan was to keep it out of the back area and push it to the front - making the rescue area smaller. The warehouse workers offered to use their stock pickers to block the two back aisles to make that area less appealing to the owl. 🦉 we have one a spare net incase the owl went in that direction and as luck would have it the owl flew towards the back and the amazing warehouse guy caught the owl with his net. 👏🏼

Sam then got harnessed up to remove the owl from the net and put in a carrier to take to the wildlife hospital. Very hungry and suffer from an eye ulcer the own needed rest and recovery with our friends at we are pleased to say we recently released this owl back into the wild 🦉🤎🪶

Such an amazing team effort between WASR volunteers, the warehouse workers (who we encouraged to sign up as volunteers) and Perth Wildlife Hospital who nursed him back to health ready for release.

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣

We are so happy to announce our biggest project yet! The Injured wildlife support program will enable us to send 60 essential supply kits to registered wildlife carers in Western Australia. 🦘

Wildlife carers donate not only their time and dedication to rehabilitating wildlife but also use their own money for medical and food supplies which can become a very costly task. This project aims to help with the costs of caring for wildlife and a shine a light on the amazing work that wildlife carers do for our native wildlife.

Our aim is to distribute kits throughout metro and regional areas and tailor the kits towards the type of wildlife being cared for.

If you would like a kit please fill in this survey/application: https://forms.gle/CMkngYcz1dWr4PbR8

This project has been made possible by the DPIRD Animal Welfare grant.

Boobook rescue for

The Boobook was found in someone’s backyard, it has been there for a few hours and other birds were picking on it. That’s when the home owner decided it needed helped.

Our first attempt failed, we thought a towel would do the trick but the Boobook evaded us. Luckily it flew into a nearby tree and Sam was able to use both nets in a sandwich technique to get him down.

He appeared to have a very injured eye 😞 taken straight to our friends at for assessment and treatment.

What an honour to be in such close proximity to such a special bird.

This rescue was with Western Australian Seabird Rescue who we proudly volunteer for 🪶

With a wingspan of 150–210 cm, it is easily identified by its massive pale bill with a distinct reddish-brown tip. Northern giant petrels breed on subantarctic islands and South Georgia, between 46° and 54°S but do not breed on the Antarctic continent.

What an experience to witness such a beautiful bird in person.

A wild life lost to rat bait 😔

You might remember us posting a video of a ladder rescue of a Boobook owl. Unfortunately, the backyard we rescued him from was full of bait blocks literally hanging from trees.

This poor Boobook had severe anticoagulant disease from rat bait poisoning. Having internal bleeding and severe blood loss, nothing more could be done, and putting him to rest was the kindest choice. Thank you to our friends at Perth Wildlife Hospital for doing everything they could for this little one.

While second-generation baits are no longer on the shelves, you might have them still in use or in packets stored in your shed. Please don’t use them.

Please dispose of them safely. ❌ Not in your bin ❌

SGARs remain active for long periods, and rats can access rubbish and tips, putting poisoned rats back into the ecosystem.

What to do: contact your local council about chemical or poison disposal options and drop-off services.

🦉 Please share this post to spread this message and together we can save wild lives.
