Boorloo/Perth Dance Artists — We Would Love to Meet You

As the incoming Artistic Directors of Co3, we are inviting professional and graduate contemporary dancers from across Western Australia to join us for a free two-day workshop in November.

This workshop is an opportunity to come together and connect with the Boorloo/Perth dance community as we begin our journey with Co3.

Across the two days, we will share our approach to contemporary dance, making space to exchange ideas and explore movement together. We are looking forward to meeting artists at different stages of their professional journeys and getting to know the breadth of contemporary dance practice across WA.

Eligibility: Professional and graduate contemporary dancers based in Western Australia

Watch CONNECT26: ARCHITECT OF THE INVISIBLE by Raewyn Hill in action.

CONNECT is Co3’s education engagement program, connecting young people across metropolitan and regional Western Australia with contemporary dance. Through workshops and opportunities to engage directly with Co3’s work, CONNECT gives students the chance to explore contemporary dance from inside the creative process.

In 2026, CONNECT continues through CONNECT26: ARCHITECT OF THE INVISIBLE, inspired by Artistic Director Raewyn Hill’s work of the same name. Students are invited to experience the movement and creative thinking of Co3’s artistic practice, bringing the work from the stage into classrooms and communities across WA.

Guided by Co3’s professional Teaching Artists, students embody choreographic material from ARCHITECT OF THE INVISIBLE, exploring physicality, musicality, imagination, collaboration and the relationship between movement and meaning.

So far this year, 3,715 young people have participated in 149 workshops, across metropolitan and regional WA. The program has been delivered by 20 Co3 Teaching Artists, bringing their expertise and knowledge of Co3’s artistic practice directly into school communities.

At Forrestfield Primary School, Years 3/4 and 5/6 participated in CONNECT26. We are delighted to share a new video capturing their encounter with contemporary dance and how they make the work their own.

CONNECT26 is supported by the Government of Western Australia, Healthway, The Kids Research Institute Australia and SEW-Arts.

Move with Co3 Teaching Artists and Company Dancers at October DANCE CAMP, returning to King Street Arts Centre for its final week-long program of 2026.

Designed for emerging dancers aged 9 - 20, DANCE CAMP offers the chance to learn directly from professional artists, train in contemporary dance techniques and repertoire, and develop your skills, confidence and creative voice in the studio.

JUNIOR | AGES 9 - 13
9am - 1pm
Perfect for younger dancers looking to expand their foundational skills. Classes focus on technique, creativity, collaboration. Participants will get a chance to participate in a dance class, followed by company repertoire.

SENIOR | AGES 14+
1pm - 5pm
These classes offer the opportunity to build technique, grow artistic curiosities, and gain insights into dance and all it encompasses. Participants will get a chance to participate in a dance class, followed by company repertoire.

Throughout the week, dancers across both streams will have the opportunity to learn phrases and sections from existing Co3 works by Artistic Director Raewyn Hill, alongside repertoire curated for Co3 by other choreographers.

Whether they are taking their first steps into contemporary dance or looking to deepen their existing practice, October’s DANCE CAMP is a chance for young dancers to move, create, collaborate and experience what it means to work inside a contemporary dance company.

We are wishing the wonderful Logan well as he wraps up his time with Co3.

Across our education program CONNECT25 + 26 and Paper Scissors Rocket!, Logan has shared his energy and creativity with countless young people in our community. He has also shared his artistry in the studio and the stage, from participating in studio developments, choreographing for GATHERING.1 and leading the street dance crew for GATHERING.2. Logan has also created video content for several of our programs throughout 2025 and 2026.

We are so grateful for Logan’s incredible work and commitment to Co3 and the young people we work with.

Last week he performed his final Paper Scissors Rocket!, before heading to Naarm/Melbourne and then onwards to London, UK for an exciting new chapter.

Thank you, Logan, for everything you have brought to Co3 we look forward to seeing where your practice takes you next!

This week is the beginning of a four-week creative development for Artistic Director Raewyn Hill’s final work for Co3, ahead of its premiere in 2027.

Working in the warehouse with Co3 dancers, alongside 20 secondment students, this development brings together artists at different stages of their professional journeys.

Alongside the company dancers and secondment students, the development will also welcome Dr Joseph Nolan.

Over the next four weeks, the warehouse will be a space for ideas to take shape as this new work begins its journey towards the stage in 2027.

After more than twelve years of exemplary leadership, Co3 Contemporary Dance Australia farewells Margrete Helgeby Chaney as Chair of the Board.

Margrete has been part of Co3’s story from the very beginning. In 2014, she was an inaugural member of the Board of The Contemporary Dance Company of WA, which would go on to become known as Co3 Contemporary Dance. Since then, she has served Co3 in several leadership roles, including Chair of the Artistic Advisory Committee, Deputy Chair and Chair.

Margrete has brought an extraordinary depth of knowledge, care and commitment to Co3 and to the broader performing arts sector. During her time with Co3, Margrete has helped guide Co3 through growth and evolution, always championing the value of contemporary dance and its capacity to contribute meaningfully to the cultural life of Western Australia.

Incoming Chair Julian Donaldson says:

“As Chair, Margrete nurtured Co3 for 10 years. Her leadership has provided a framework with clarity of vision and consistency of purpose for Co3 to create, commission and curate exceptional contemporary dance. Margrete has devoted enormous energy, imagination, and hard work to ensure the company will continue to evolve and grow beyond her term. She has made a remarkable contribution and her legacy will always be regarded as one of Co3's great treasures. The Co3 board thanks Margrete for her support and for her tremendous contribution to dance and the vitality of the cultural sector more broadly."

We thank Margrete for her unwavering belief and her tremendous contribution to Co3, and look forward to seeing her at Co3 performances in the future.

We are thrilled to announce Charmene Yap and Cass Mortimer Eipper as Co-Artistic Directors, sharing artistic leadership of Co3 from January 2027 — the return of two stellar and highly respected artists whose early careers were shaped by Western Australia.

Charmene Yap is an award-winning dance artist, choreographer and rehearsal director whose practice spans contemporary dance, theatre, opera and film. A graduate of WAAPA, her career includes work with Sydney Dance Company, Chunky Move and Lucy Guerin Inc, recognised with two Helpmann Awards and an Australian Dance Award.

Cass Mortimer Eipper is an award-winning choreographer and director whose work spans contemporary dance, live performance, film and installation, presented by Sydney Dance Company, Bangarra, Australasian Dance Collective and Queensland Ballet, with international commissions in Canada and the US. He began his career with West Australian Ballet and received the 2015 Helpmann Award for Best Male Dancer.

Together, Charmene and Cass co-created Grey Rhino, presented at Sydney Festival 2022 — proof of an already-thriving creative partnership, and now relocating with their family to Boorloo/Perth to lead Co3 together.

"This isn't simply a move west for us — Western Australia shaped us both as artists, so the opportunity to return and lead Co3 together means a great deal," the incoming Co-Artistic Directors shared. "We see Co3 as a place where ambitious dance is made, where artists can take risks, and where work born in Western Australia can resonate nationally and internationally."

Under their shared leadership, Charmene and Cass will co-choreograph major ensemble works and jointly curate and commission across the season.

They succeed inaugural Artistic Director Raewyn Hill, whose twelve years of bold leadership shaped Co3 into a company recognised nationally and internationally. Raewyn remains Artistic Director through December 2026, returning in 2027 as Co3 Creative Fellow.

We look forward to hosting Charmene and Cass in Perth this November ahead of their 1 January 2027 start date.

Co3 Artistic Director Raewyn Hill joined arts leaders, presenters and industry professionals from across Western Australia at CircuitWest’s WA Showcase.

As Western Australia’s largest annual performing arts conference, WA Showcase brings the sector together to explore the future of art across the state.

Co3 contributed to the program by sharing GATHERING.1, curated by Raewyn Hill. This immersive work brings performers and audiences together in a powerful and unique shared experience, inviting connection through movement, sound and live activation.
