What a meaningful two days with the Regional Arts Network!

Last week, we brought together the Regional Arts Network in Perth for two days dedicated to connection, collaboration, and professional development.

Through a mix of workshops, critical conversations, shared meals and moments of reflection, the annual gathering created space for meaningful engagement and genuine connection. Participants were both supported and stretched — challenged to think critically, exchange ideas, and deepen their practice — while also taking time to recharge and share moments of laughter. It was a powerful reminder of the value of coming together face-to-face.

This marks the second time Regional Arts WA has delivered the gathering at this scale, with participation continuing to grow — an encouraging sign of the Network’s strength and momentum.

The RAN Gathering plays a vital role in supporting regional arts workers, strengthening skills, relationships and resilience across a sector often shaped by limited resources and geographic distance. It is an investment in a more connected and sustainable creative ecosystem.

This Regional Arts WA event is delivered through our partnership with Minderoo Foundation for the Thrive! Framework, and supported by the WA Government.

Regional Arts Australia is proud to announce the recipients of Round 1, 2026 Regional Arts Fund Project Grants, with more than $1.08 million invested across 47 projects in regional, rural and remote communities nationwide.

The round reflects strong and growing demand for the program, with 217 applications received, a 17% increase on the same round last year. Of the 47 funded projects, 28% came from first-time successful applicants, drawn from a pool where 43% of all applicants were new to the program.

Australian Government Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, congratulated the recipients and acknowledged the vital role they play in shaping regional Australia’s arts landscape.

“There’s a place for every story and a story for every place and our regional artists are critical in ensuring Australian stories are told across the country. Boosting the cultural infrastructure of those communities means regional arts will go from strength to strength. This funding shines a light on projects across the country, helping regional artists reach new audiences within their communities and beyond.”

The Regional Arts Fund is an Australian Government program that supports sustainable cultural development in regional and remote communities in Australia. The program is managed by Regional Arts Australia and organisations in each state and territory.

Italian-Australian glass artist Sabrina Dowling Giudici stands in a small Carnarvon gallery, chatting to locals as they drift through her latest exhibition. It’s an understated scene for an artist who has led World Heritage art-science work for the World Congress of Conservation, lectured at the International Biennale of Glass, and twice been included in The Venice Glass Week.

From a high-flying corporate career in Perth to returning home, feeling disconnected, and eventually building a practice that translates the region’s light, coastlines and everyday life into glass. Sabrina's story is about finding your way back, and why the Gascoyne continues to shape everything she creates.
