This week at our Toastmasters meeting we were reminded why storytelling is one of the most powerful things a human being can do.

Ken Lin took the stage with a pitch that had us all quietly checking our missed calls. His startup is working to help people identify phone scammers. Timely, important, and delivered with conviction.

Jill Thomas brought the house down (again!) with her story about The Worst Date Ever - fresh from the District Contest stage, and still just as delightfully painful to hear. Some stories only get better with telling.

And then Jigme Dorji stopped the room. His journey through the challenges of his visa process was raw, real, and deeply moving. He's recently received his PR, a moment years in the making. His words, "The frequency of confidence," stayed with everyone long after the meeting ended.
Congratulations, Jigme. That one was earned. 🙏

We also have an exciting new home on the web! Check it out: toastmanager.app/homepage/6428

A huge thank you to Fasahat Feroze for making it happen!

📅 Our next meeting is May 25th. Tune into your frequency. We'll see you there. 📡

🙌🏼What do childhood lessons, global career moves, quiet leadership, and scam-busting startups have in common? One Toastmasters meeting.

This time, we also celebrated two Ice Breaker speeches, a special milestone in every Toastmaster’s journey:

🎙️Rolex Santiago presented his Ice Breaker “Stay on Track” - a sincere and insightful reflection on his childhood.

🎙️Catalina Gallego delivered her Ice Breaker “Different Versions of Me”, sharing her journey from being a civil engineer in Colombia to becoming a construction planner in Australia, a truly impressive story of growth and courage.

🎙️Lydia Jaison spoke about the quiet power of leadership, offering thoughtful insights on influence beyond words.

🎙️Ken Lin introduced his innovative startup, tackling the massive issue of scammers, a topic that resonated with everyone.

We also had a fantastic Table Topics session led by Ian Pickens, who brought in playing cards and got almost everyone in the room involved, a fun and dynamic twist!

Empathy, creativity, and a little bit of chaos (in the best way) - that’s what last week’s meeting was all about! ✨

The theme of the evening at was Empathy, and our speakers truly embraced it with thoughtful and entertaining approaches.

Martin Dougiamas explored what might be the worst thing in the world… washing the dishes! 🍽 A humorous take that still resonated with everyday life and shared experiences.

Ian Pickens delivered a highly visual speech about Humpty Dumpty, complete with real eggs. Yes, they were smashed🥚💥 What a show! It definitely made the message memorable.

We’re also thrilled to announce that our amazing club member Richard Nyen will be representing City of Perth Toastmasters at the upcoming Division Contest on April 11th.
Wishing you the very best, we’re cheering you on! 🎉

Proof that empathy can crack eggs, spark laughter, and bring ideas to life.

Another Toastmasters meeting took place earlier this week, with Kindness as the theme.

We heard thoughtful and engaging speeches from four speakers, each offering a different perspective on what kindness looks like in real life through actions, words, and everyday choices.

A quote that reflects the spirit of the evening comes from Marcus Aurelius:
“Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness.”

The meeting, as always, was held in a warm and supportive atmosphere, with genuine listening and positive energy in the room.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make the evening meaningful.

Our first Toastmasters meeting of 2026 took place on Monday and it set a great tone for the year ahead🙌🏼

We welcomed 9 guests and enjoyed a series of strong, engaging speeches🎙️

Fasahat Feroze opened the meeting by walking us through the new club portal he created. Clear, practical, and forward-looking. A great example of how technology can support better speech writing and member growth.

Usha Raman followed with a beautiful reflection on communication. One line stayed with many of us: “Communication is a very delicate dance.” Simple, thoughtful, and very true.

Our third speaker, Gareth Williams, brought humour to the stage with a story about a book he once wanted to get rid of, and how it unexpectedly became one of the most meaningful and precious items in his family.

As always, the room was full of good energy, support, and easy laughter. A really good evening spent together.

Keep in touch and join us for the next meeting on February 2nd.

Another inspiring night at City of Perth Toastmasters!

Tonight’s meeting was filled with laughter, warmth, and heartfelt stories.

One of the highlights was a beautiful Maid of Honor speech that made everyone feel as if we were attending a real wedding! 💍💐

We also enjoyed an Ice Breaker speech, marking the start of another exciting Toastmasters journey, always a special moment to witness.

Earlier this week, we had the Area C2 Table Topics & Humorous Speech Contests, where four clubs competed, and our very own Jill Barnard and Reece Dempster both took First Place in both contests!
🤩
Then on Saturday, November 1st, the excitement continued at the Central Division Finals.

Our amazing Jill delivered another stellar performance and placed 2nd in the Humorous Speech Contest! 🥈

Reece also did a fantastic job, sharing a story about how he once beat Ian Thorpe in a swimming competition at age 14.

We were also proud to see our Club President Martin Dougiamas deliver an inspiring speech about how learning can be seen as building bridges — for example, when we learn even a few words of another language, we create a bridge to connect with people who speak it.

What a week of laughter, inspiration, and connection!
👏 Congratulations to all contestants and organisers for an energising and heart-warming celebration of Toastmasters spirit!

What an inspiring Monday evening at City of Perth Toastmasters!

We were thrilled to witness Taktoom Ha deliver her very first Icebreaker speech, such a courageous and heartfelt start to her Toastmasters journey.

The night kept sparkling with two more powerful speeches:

💃 Henry Yau had us laughing as he revealed his secret weapon - some truly powerful dancing moves!

💬 Naomi Lynch shared a deeply personal and passionate message about the importance of speaking up and protecting your truth, a reminder that our voices matter.

And a special shoutout to our seasoned toastmaster Ian Pickens, whose humorous and insightful evaluation of Henry’s speech made the whole room light up.

A big thank you to all our speakers, evaluators, and members for creating such a warm, supportive, and fun atmosphere.
