World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – 15 June

Today, we stand together to raise awareness of elder abuse and reaffirm every older person’s right to live with dignity, respect, safety, and independence.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, sexual abuse, neglect, and social isolation. It often occurs at the hands of someone known and trusted by the older person.

At Elizabeth Morgan House, we recognise the importance of creating safe communities where Elders are valued, heard, and protected. Our Elders hold knowledge, culture, strength, and wisdom that enrich our families and communities.

If you or someone you know may be experiencing elder abuse, support is available.

Together, we can help ensure all older people are treated with the respect and care they deserve.

πŸ’œ Respect our Elders. Listen to our Elders. Protect our Elders.

Today on National Sorry Day 2026, we acknowledge the Stolen Generations and the deep, ongoing impact of past government policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We remember the children who were taken, the families who were separated, and the strength of those who continue to carry truth, culture and survival forward.

Sorry means nothing without action, accountability, and change.

Today is about reflection, respect, and commitment to a better future.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

πŸ’œ Are You Safe at Home? Day πŸ’œ

At Elizabeth Morgan House (EMH), we know that home isn’t always a safe place for everyone. Behind closed doors, too many women and children are living with fear instead of safety.

Today, we ask a simple but powerful question:
Are you safe at home?

If the answer is no β€” or even β€œI’m not sure” β€” please know this: you are not alone, and support is here.

EMH provides a safe, confidential refuge for women and children experiencing family violence. We are here to listen, to support, and to walk alongside you as you take your next steps toward safety.
