In this before and after photo you can see the difference a couple of minutes of weeding makes!

A busy morning at Merri Park yesterday with Co-Exist Australia bringing young adults out to help care for Merri Creek alongside Merri Creek Management Committee and Friends of Merri Creek.

Their monthly 'Merri Morning' events will add up to hundreds more hours of volunteer care for Merri Park this year and more opportunities for young people to connect with community and urban nature.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and Merri Creek Management Committee this morning in planting 300 water-loving shrubs by Merri Creek. We can't wait to see how they fill out and frame the billabong.

We're grateful to Uncle Dave Wandin for his Welcome to Country and reminding us how we can care for Country and the animals that call it home by providing the plants they need to live.

It was a beautiful morning of community coming together to look after Merri Creek and Mother Earth and we look forward to looking after these new plants during our regular events.

Many of the weeds found in Merri Park are garden escapees - reducing the threat of weeds to Merri Creek starts in our gardens and nature strips.

Agapanthus, morning glory or gazanias might be easy-growing plants in your home but their invasive nature can damage your garden and the environment. Here's what experts recommend.

We had a fantastic morning in Merri Park with Angela, Tony and Cej from Merri Creek Management Committee sharing their knowledge of weeds and ecology.

After an introduction to the weeds and a drawing activity, 37 volunteers got hands on experience removing fumitory, ehrharta and fat hen from one of our 2025 planting sites.

Additional supervision was provided by a very chatty grey butcherbird.
