Brunswick Tool Library, Inc Need Tools? Why buy when you can borrow? The Brunswick Tool Library - just like a library, but for tools!

The Brunswick Tool Library Inc (BTL) is like a traditional library, but with tools instead of books. It is a non-profit membership organisation providing residents of Merri-bek and surrounds with access to an ever-growing inventory of quality DIY, gardening and craft tools. For some of our members it is a way of accessing tools they can’t otherwise afford, and others it is a means of pooling resou

rces they are only going to use once in a while. The Tool Library is a way to reduce consumption, to connect communities and to learn from one another.

📣 Exciting news about our repair cafes! 📣
Starting from this Sunday 26 July, we’re piloting a Professional In-Residence program, where a skilled volunteer will provide advice to complement your home DIY projects.

We’re delighted to welcome architectural designer Dr Mathieu Gallois to BTL as our first Professional In-Residence. Mat will be with us for the remaining winter months, same hours as our repair cafes.

🏡 Mat’s education, creative practice and employment history over the last 30 years has spanned the interdisciplinary fields of fine woodworking, art, design, architecture, and research. You can learn more about his practice here: https://www.mathieugallois.com/.

Mat is happy to provide advice on making, building, designing, planning on a wide variety of projects - from furniture making, house / apartment renovating, house designing, through to seeking planning approval. Each session limited to a 15 minute consultation.

🚲Learn to keep your bike running smoothly!

Recently, our volunteers got hands-on at our trial Bike Maintenance Essentials workshop, and now it’s your turn.

Join our team of skilled bike maintenance volunteers, Alec, Hamish, Jonny and Tom, on Saturday 19 July to pick up the skills every rider should know: fixing a flat, adjusting brakes, keeping your chain happy, and the basic checks that keep you safe on the road.

No experience needed, just bring your bike and your curiosity. Whether you’re a daily commuter or a weekend rider, you’ll leave knowing how to look after your ride and save on repair shop trips.

💸 Where do the voluntary contributions (aka donations) go? 💸

Our repair cafe’s pay as you feel model helps keep the Brunswick Tool Library running - covering costs, maintaining our space, and saying a proper thank you to the volunteers who give their time to fix your stuff.

Speaking of fixing things… here’s how our March Repair Cafe went:
🔧 31 items brought in
✅ 20 successfully repaired
⚖️ 36.72 kg of items given a second life
•
And since January, we’ve collectively kept 104.8 kg of items out of landfill. Not bad at all!
