There are so many amazing plants that are either overlooked or under-used, so we are going to do a little recurring post to highlight these forgotten friends!

This week, we are highlighting Correas! Correas are quite hardy and adaptable shrubs that come in all sorts of colours and forms. We love them for their Autumn/Winter flowers that are a great food source for small nectar-feeding birds and bees. So whether you are looking for a large shrub for a sunny area or a small spreading shrub for a partially shaded position, there is a Correa for you. Swipe to see some general information.

We have so many Correas in stock at the moment, so come have a peak and potentially take home a new planty friend 🌱

🍋Cooler weather means citrus season is on its way! With the joy of citrus comes the annoyance of pests, so keep a keen eye on your plants and deal with issues early.

Below are two common pests this time of year:

🦋Citrus Leaf Miner
CLM is the larvae of a small moth that creates silvery wiggle paths in young leaf (and sometimes stem!) membranes. This damage causes curling and is often mistaken for leaf curl, a fungal disease commonly found on stone fruit. While minor infestations don’t hinder the plant too much, larger numbers can set back a growth season.

⛑️ Treatment
Deterrence is key! Setting out pheromone sticky traps helps catch the moths before they can mate. You can also routinely spray new growth with Eco-Oil to prevent female moths from laying their eggs. Wet autumn weather washes off the spray, so time applications with dry patches. Once the larvae has landed, the damage is done. You can prune off affected growth (ideally before the larvae has landed emerges) and bin it.

🪲Aphids
Aphids are sap-sucking insects that feed on new growth. Normally their impact is small, but their feeding can cause the leaf to deform as it grows or wilt/die off if the infestation is severe.

⛑️ Treatment
In small numbers, physically removing them with a quick squish or harsh spray of water is enough to help your plant out. Alternatively, you can spray with Eco-Oil to kill off the aphids. Remember to fully coat the new growth as it is a contact-based spray.

🔍Hopefully keeping on top of these common garden issues will lead to a happy and healthy crop!

With another month comes another planting guide!

It’s still ok to put most of your brassicas in the ground, just be wary of the cabbage moth caterpillar munchin’ those beautiful leaves (post incoming for these little ones)

Great time for root vegetables and leafy greens too.

Happy planting everyone 🌻
