Psoriasis Australia

Psoriasis Australia www.psoriasisaustralia.org.au Many Psoriatics (those with psoriasis) have a need to communicate with others who can empathise with their problems.

Psoriasis Australia is the only Australian patient support group registered with IFPA, the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations, and IADPO (Global Skin) the International Association of Dermatology Patients Organisations. As part of a larger global federation, we have the power to mobilize psoriasis stakeholders from a wide range of countries and sectors. bringing together people wi

th psoriasis, healthcare professionals, leading experts and industry partners through events like the World Psoriasis & Psoriatic Arthritis Conference and the annual World Psoriasis Day
We strive to assist people with Psoriasis, and Psoriatic Arthritis, ( or those just wanting to know about psoriasis ), by providing up to date information and support enabling educated decisions to be made on treatment choices and lifestyle changes. We provide a forum where sufferers can learn how others handle problems, and provide suggestions on how to cope better when disgruntled and disillusioned with their condition and treatments. Please contact us via email, or on our page, or visit our website to find out more. Our office is not always attended, but our social media is.....drop us a line.

It’s 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 and we are standing with 𝟏𝟐𝟓 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 people worldwide who are living with psoriatic disease.

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰?

Around 𝟏 𝐢𝐧 𝟑 people living with psoriasis will go on to develop psoriatic arthritis (PsA) — an inflammatory form of arthritis that can cause joint pain, stiffness and swelling.

If you live with psoriasis, it’s important to keep an eye out for early signs of PsA — things like sore or swollen joints, heel pain, or morning stiffness that lasts more than 30 minutes. Catching it early makes a big difference.

What can you do?

- Talk with your GP or dermatologist if you notice new joint or tendon pain.
- Keep track of your symptoms — even small changes matter.
- Ask about referral to a rheumatologist if you’re concerned.

Remember, you’re not alone. With early treatment and the right support, most people with PsA can stay active and live well.

Thank you Dr Adrian Mar and the team for your determination and dedication to better health outcomes for our Psoriasis community.
Today, on World Psoriasis Day, we’re proud to officially launch Digital Dermatology — a new way for Australians to access expert skin care, wherever they are.
Psoriasis affects thousands of Australians, yet too many still face barriers to timely specialist care. Our mission is to change that, by combining dermatology expertise with digital innovation, so that every person living with a skin condition can get the care they deserve, faster.
We’re honoured to launch alongside Psoriasis Australia, standing together for awareness, understanding, and better access for all.

This 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲. ⁣

Let’s remember that psoriasis is not just skin deep.⁣

It’s a daily reality that affects confidence, social life, and emotional wellbeing of those diagnosed with the disease and their loved ones. But with the right care and awareness, people can thrive.⁣

“𝘗𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭-𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳-𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴.”⁣

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰:⁣

People living with psoriasis are 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝟔𝟓% more likely to experience depression and around 𝟓𝟎% more likely to experience anxiety than those without psoriasis.⁣

By recognising the emotional side of psoriasis, we can create space for better care, understanding, and compassion.⁣

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩⁣
- 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐮𝐩: Tell your dermatologist or GP if psoriasis is affecting your mood or sleep.⁣
- 𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Depression and anxiety can be treated — support makes a real difference.⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭: Peer and online support communities can ease isolation and share coping ideas.⁣
- 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲: Sleep, exercise, and stress-reduction (like mindfulness or gentle yoga) help both skin and mood.⁣

Today, on 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲, let’s raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind each other that caring for your skin means caring for your whole body — inside and out.⁣

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰:⁣

𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝟓𝟎% 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝟐 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐩𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬. The more severe the psoriasis, the higher the risk. That’s because inflammation — the same process that causes skin flare-ups — can also affect how your body controls blood sugar.⁣

The good news is there’s a lot you can do to protect your health:⁣
• Eat a balanced, anti-inflammatory diet rich in whole foods⁣
• Move your body every day — even a short walk helps⁣
• Manage stress and prioritise good sleep⁣

Keep up regular check-ups with your healthcare team.⁣
