Need your staff to understand the essentials of working within the humanitarian system?

Then be like the Tonga National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO).

This week we are running an Essentials of Humanitarian Practice (EHP) course with 28 participants from NDRMO with content tailored to the organisation’s specific needs.

Funded by Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade post Tonga, our highly experienced and expert trainers Dr Joshua Hallwright, Talei Tora and Vuli Gauna are focused on better equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to be systems informed and field ready.

Through a mix of classroom style learning and simulation, participants will learn what it takes to respond to an international humanitarian crisis during a multinational response.

In a year that has already seen intensifying conflict and political instability, as well as compounding climate-related disasters and disease outbreaks across the globe – your donation today is critically important.

You can support us to train and deploy deeply experienced humanitarian professionals like RedR Australia Roster member, Tai-Ring. From the Solomon Islands to Rwanda, from Nepal to South Sudan and beyond—Tai-Ring has used his engineering skills to help communities gain or regain access to safe water and improved sanitation.

"In Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Bangladesh or Rwanda, my skills are extremely valuable for water supply—like how to repair a water treatment plant, and how to rebuild or create a new water system," shares Tai-Ring.

"And when safe water is available back in the community, you can see the community relax and that normality means the recovery will be ongoing. That's a really good outcome."

This Australian EOFY, help us train and deploy even more experts to support communities in crisis around the world.

Last week in Geneva, RedR Australia CEO Dr Helen Durham AO attended the first Networking Reception for Member States and Community of Practice for the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel.

It was a well attended event including moving speeches made by HR Ambassador Walsh from Australia as well as the Jordanian Ambassador in Geneva. A great opportunity to network with a broad and dedicated community advocating for the protection of civilians and humanitarian access. Helen is seen here with friend of RedR Australia and Center for Civilians in Conflict Executive Director Hichem Khadhraoui.

Our trainers are not only experienced educators - they have also worked for a wide range of UN agencies, governments and civil society organisations globally and bring many years of field and operational experience in climate-related disasters and conflicts.

RedR Australia Trainer Dr Kathryn Harries, an expert water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) engineer and humanitarian leader, is often one of our trainers on our Essentials of Humanitarian Practice (EHP), Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) and WASH courses: "I really enjoy connecting with people who are both interesting in their own right, because they've all come from different pathways, but also people who are interested in the humanitarian world."

"I also really enjoy being able to strengthen future humanitarians to better meet the challenge."

Featuring leading voices in the field - the conversation explores what operational research actually is and what it looks like on the ground. The challenge is: when you ask hard questions in high-stakes environments, what are you obligated to do with the answers?

Hosted by RedR Australia CEO Dr Helen Durham AO – listen to this powerful discussion with Dr Fiona Terry, Honorary Professor at the The University of Queensland and long-time aid practitioner; Beth Eggleston, Co-Founder and Director of the Humanitarian Advisory Group; and Dr Joshua Hallwright, RedR Australia's Director of Training and Strategy.
