What should you expect when taking part in one of our programs?

From hearing directly from industry experts to stepping behind the scenes in real creative environments, our programs are designed to help young people feel prepared, connected and closer to the screen industry.

Ahead of our upcoming events, we’ve put together this short guide to help nominees and participants understand what to expect on the day - including check-in, networking, activities, group movement, health and safety, dress code, and how to make the most of the experience.

The 2026 Australia Youth Film Festival Award Ceremony is returning to Melbourne.

Join us at The Capitol Theatre for an unforgettable evening celebrating the next generation of Australian filmmakers, storytellers, and screen creators. You can grab tickets now from the Australia Youth Film Festival website.

Hosted with RMIT University, the Award Ceremony will bring together young creators from across Australia and New Zealand for a fast-paced evening of awards, celebration, and recognition - showcasing some of the very best emerging voices in film, documentary, animation, and screen storytelling.

🎬 Volunteer with the Australia Youth Film Festival in Melbourne, Victoria!

We’re now recruiting volunteers to help bring the 2026 Australia Youth Film Festival to life across our Industry Day and Award Ceremony events.

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience at a national youth film festival, meet emerging creatives, support young creators, and be part of an exciting program celebrating Australia’s next generation of talent.

Volunteer roles are available for:

✨ Industry Day Volunteers Friday, 3 July · 9.00am - 5.00pm AEST Support our behind-the-scenes Industry Day program, usually reserved for nominees, with a free lunch included.

✨ Award Ceremony Volunteers Saturday, 4 July · 4.00pm - 8.30pm AEST Help deliver our biggest night of the year, including red carpet moments, guest arrivals, nominee support, and event operations.

1,262 entries across Australia and New Zealand.

We’re incredibly proud to share that the Australia Youth Film Festival (AUYFF) and New Zealand Youth Film Festival (NZYFF) have received 1,262 entries this year from young creators, storytellers, animators, documentarians and creatives across both countries!

To every entrant who submitted their work: thank you. Your stories, perspectives and creativity continue to remind us why youth-led filmmaking matters.

Our team is now reviewing entries across both festivals, and we can’t wait to celebrate this year’s emerging screen talent in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

This award program celebrates outstanding emerging animation talent from young Australian creatives, recognising work that demonstrates originality, strong visual storytelling, and creative excellence.

Eligible entrants can be considered for the award by submitting their work to the Festival for free by 11.59pm (AEST) on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

The Festival will take place in Melbourne on 3-4 July 2026, bringing together young creatives through industry experiences, workshops, and the Festival’s red carpet Award Ceremony.
