This song was inspired by Dr Doolittle and a two-headed llama - so yes, you can write a song about ANYTHING! 🦙

The kids at Upper Lansdowne Public School and their ACMF teacher Matty are writing a new song after they won the NSC last year with a great tune about their hometown. The song is about how sometimes we feel confused and pulled here and there by life🥴 They were inspired by a Dr Doolittle clip where a two-headed llama (aka a Pushmi-Pullyu) tries to go in multiple directions at once - goes to show inspiration can come from anywhere!

✍️Aged 17 or younger and got an original song idea too? We want to hear it! Enter our National Songwriting Competition now and you could join these talented kids as NSC winners🤸

It was a privilege to be invited to Unltd's Adland Bail Out at Yasmar Detention Centre, where industry executives spent a night behind bars.

The event gives participants a glimpse of what it feels like for a child as young as 10 to go to prison and the vicious cycle that youth incarceration creates for children and communities.

Our ACMF teacher, Elle, led a workshop at the event, sharing her first-hand experience working with young people in detention. She told the story of an inmate who had been locked up from a very young age, and how music helped him.

She also discussed the work the ACMF does each week in Juvenile Justice Centres across Australia, using music to tackle inequity, unlock hidden potential, and change life trajectories. The music programs provide a chance for these children, who can be locked up from such a young age, to look at the world through different eyes and create a brighter future through music tuition and songwriting.

Thanks to Unltd for raising awareness of this issue

💙This tax time, you can change that.

Your tax-deductible donation helps us bring long-term music education to children around Australia who would otherwise go without.

Do you know a student hoping for a career in the music industry? Many of our National Songwriting Contestants go on to become part of Australia’s exciting music scene, but knowing how to get your career started as a young musician can be tricky.

Luckily, our friends at The Push are hosting their 2026 Music Careers Expos across Australia this June, July, and August! It’s a completely free one-day event where young people can connect with industry pros, join hands-on workshops, and explore pathways in performance, production, marketing and more.

It’s ideal for students so teachers are encouraged to bring the whole class! And if you’re a young person outside of school, you’re absolutely welcome too!

🎶 Calling all young creators! 🎶
At Music in Me, we believe in the words of our founder Richard Gill: “we learn music so we can make music.” And what better way to bring music to life than through composition? ✍️🎵
That’s why we’re excited to share that our friends at the Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF) have opened entries for the 2026 National Songwriting Competition! From Kindergarten to Year 12, young musicians across Australia are invited to create and share their original songs—whether that’s a solo piece or a whole-class collaboration. 🎤🎸
