🚨 EMERGENCY APPEAL: Drought is keeping students in northern Baringo, Kenya out of school.

The rains have failed and food has run out. For many students, a meal at school is the most reliable food they get. Without it, they’re too hungry to concentrate, or too weak to make the walk. Classrooms are emptying, just weeks before end-of-year exams.

We know what works. Through our Shamba Letu and School Improvement projects, schools grow their own food on school farms, with boreholes providing reliable, safe water. Three of our Baringo schools already have both, and despite the drought, their students are still eating and still learning.

In the drier north, that work takes longer. Emergency food will carry students through until the drought eases.

We’re raising $20,000 to provide emergency food parcels to 7 schools, feeding approximately 3,100 students for a month.

🆘 1 in 5 girls around the world is married before she turns 18.

In Tanzania, it's nearly 3 in 10. And in Baringo, Kenya, our local team estimates up to 60% of girls are at risk of child marriage.

Ahead of the International Day of the Girl on 11 October, we're joining the global call to end child marriage and invest in girls' rights. For us, that starts in the classroom. When girls can stay in school, they have more say over their own futures.

Margret knows this better than anyone. She never went to school, and she was married while still a child herself.

Today, she's making sure her children's lives look different. As a Champion Mother in our Champions' Network, she goes door to door in her community with a simple message for other parents: take your girls to school.

👏 A huge thank you to the team from Lesaffre Kenya who joined us last week to mark World Cleanup Day!

Together with 1,403 students, their teachers and members of the So They Can team, they spent an inspiring day at Kibowen Komen Primary School exploring this year’s theme: Clean School, Healthy Community: Acting for a Greener Future.

During the day, the Lesaffre team organised for the students to learn about road safety with an educational session delivered by AA Kenya.

The students also shared poems, songs and skits about caring for the environment, sanitation and good hygiene, before everyone rolled up their sleeves and worked in teams to clean different areas of the school.

The day ended with a shared commitment to continue protecting the environment and creating a cleaner, healthier community.

✨ Great news from Tanzania! Through our Keeping Girls in School project, we've recently distributed 143 NIA Dignity Packs to girls in our partner schools — taking the total of Packs distributed this year to 1,110 👏

In the communities we partner with, period poverty is still one of the most prominent reasons why girls miss school. Not because they don't want to be there — but because they cannot access or afford basic sanitary solutions.

✅ Our NIA Dignity Packs are closing that gap.

Each pack includes reusable sanitary pads, underwear and cleaning products, enabling girls to stay in the classroom every week of the month.

📢 Big news from the United Nations General Assembly: 27 November has officially been designated the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage.

Child marriage remains one of the biggest barriers to girls staying in school and finishing their education — in the communities we work alongside in Kenya and Tanzania, and around the world.

When a girl stay in school, she gains more than an education — she gains agency over her own future, the ability to decide when and who she marries, what work she pursues, and the life she builds.

Education is one of the clearest pathways out of poverty, and it's girls themselves who benefit most directly when that pathway stays open.

🌍 Child, early and forced marriage is a widespread issue that affects millions of girls around the world every year. We hope this new awareness day helps to drive action and create real, lasting change for girls everywhere.
