Birth for Humankind

Birth for Humankind Birth for Humankind provides pregnancy, birth & postnatal support.

Birth for Humankind is a Melbourne-based non-profit organisation providing free pregnancy, birth and postnatal support to birthing people experiencing social and financial disadvantage. We support young women, women from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, women experiencing homelessness, as well as other people in vulnerable, at-risk or disadvantaged circumstances, who benefit most from contin

uous care and support but face many barriers that can prevent access to it. Our team of volunteer doulas are dedicated to improving the birth experiences and outcomes to women and birthing people who may otherwise go without adequate care and support.

Not every parent has the same access to safe, supported care. Some face financial stress, others are navigating cultural or language barriers, and some are experiencing trauma, family violence, or isolation.

Your support ensures Birth for Humankind’s volunteer doulas can step in, provide care, and show up when it matters most.

Give today, and ensure no one has to birth alone.

DON’T FORGET: Calling all doulas across Australia!

We’re sharing an opportunity to take part in the Australian Doula Work Survey, led by A/Prof Sarah Ireland and Dr Sarah Khaw.

This survey focuses on work models, services provided, working conditions, and pay, to build a clearer picture of current doula practice.

⏱ Time commitment: 8-10 minutes (a little longer if you choose optional questions)
📱 Access: Mobile, tablet, or computer
🔗 Survey link: Check out our bio, or copy and paste the following URL into your Internet browser:
https://cdu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eWkTX3mORnKuhFk?RID=CGC_ST8MzxGc3ZgAdSY&Q_CHL=email

The survey is open from 7 May to 21 June 2026.

Your insights will help to better understand:
- how doulas are currently working across different contexts
- the range of services provided
- typical pay structures and conditions

Optional questions also explore factors that may influence:
- doula wellbeing
- the sustainability of practice

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. No identifying information is collected. Please avoid including names of clients, workplaces, or specific locations in open responses. You may skip any question or exit at any time.

Ethics approval has been granted by:
- Menzies School of Health Research (HREC 2022-4291)
- NT Health Research Governance Office (HREC 2022-4291)

Pregnancy, birth, and early parenting can be isolating. Especially for people experiencing financial hardship or systemic disadvantage.

At Birth for Humankind, our volunteer doulas walk alongside clients every step of the way. From appointments and hospital visits to navigating complex health systems, we ensure no one feels lost, unsupported, or invisible.

Justice in birth isn’t just an idea, it’s about providing the guidance, presence, and advocacy every person deserves.
