Yesterday marked the first day of the 2026 ASM in Cairns!

Across four sessions and more than 20 presentations, the day set the tone for this year’s theme, From Innovation to Recovery.

Our two international guest speakers, Dr Ashleigh Guadagnolo and Prof Craig Gerrand, delivered the day’s keynotes. Dr Guadagnolo presented the Martin Tattersall Lecture, “Hypofractionated preoperative radiation therapy for soft tissue sarcoma: Are we racing ahead of the toxicity data?”, and Prof Gerrand’s first keynote explored surgical innovations that improve function.

Friday concluded with six selected abstract presentations and a celebratory Poster Soirée, where attendees met the researchers behind the posters.

Thank you to our brilliant session chairs for Friday, Angela Hong, David Gyorki, Claire Laurie and Liz Connolly, and to every presenter, delegate, consumer and supporter who made Day 1 such a success!
