Alice never married. No kids. Loved crocheting and quiet routines.

Jess is 25, fast-talking, curious, obsessed with Demon Hunters.

On paper? They should never have clicked.

But they did. ✨

Alice learned everything about Demon Hunters—and even crocheted a tiny figure for Jess.
Jess learned to crochet… and to truly know Alice.

Now, Jess visits weekly. Alice waits for her.

This is volunteering at its best:
Not fixing. Not rescuing. Just showing up. đź’›

No special skills needed. Just time, curiosity, and an open heart.

Alice never married.
No children. No close family.
A former teacher who loved crocheting and quiet routines.

Jess is in her mid-20s.
Loves Demon Hunters. Fast-talking, curious, and from a completely different world.

On paper, the chances of a strong bond were slim.

But they clicked.

Alice learned everything there is to know about Demon Hunters, the characters, the plots, the drama, and even crocheted a small Demon Hunters figure just for Jess! Jess, in return, learned to crochet. More importantly, she learned Alice.

Jess now visits weekly. Alice waits for her.

This is what volunteering really looks like.
Not fixing. Not rescuing. Just showing up — and being open to connection you didn’t expect.

You don’t need special skills. You don’t need the perfect match. You just need time, curiosity, and the willingness to sit with someone and let a relationship grow.

At Ageing with Grace, we’re always looking for volunteers who want to make a real difference - one relationship at a time. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

New year. Same need. Human connection.

As the year turns, many of us make resolutions about health, work, or slowing down.
But one of the most powerful things we can do for our wellbeing isn’t something we can tick off a list.

It’s connection.

A conversation.
A shared laugh.
Someone remembering your story.

For many older people, the new year can quietly highlight what’s missing - fewer visits, fewer calls, fewer moments of being truly seen.

At Ageing with Grace, we see every day how meaningful connection changes lives. Not in grand gestures, but in simple, steady friendships that say: "you matter".

This year, let’s place connection where it belongs - at the centre of happiness.

Because no one should feel alone in a brand-new year đź’›

At this special time of year, I want to thank our wonderful volunteers, supporters, partners and the older people we walk alongside. Your kindness, time and generosity create real connections and make such a difference every single day.

Christmas can be a time of joy, reflection, and also quiet moments - please know that connection and care matter, now and always.

🌿 A new era for aged care.

The new Aged Care Act changes everything.

It recognises that dignity, respect and human connection are not extras - they are rights.

For the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, this means companionship is no longer a kindness; it’s a core part of quality care.

At Ageing With Grace, we welcome this shift. Real care is relational - it’s about being seen, heard and valued.

This reform gives us the framework to do what we’ve always believed in: ensuring every older person has the chance to age with grace, connection and meaning.

✨Volunteer with Ageing with Grace in Darwin✨

Bring joy and connection to the life of an older person as an Aged Care Volunteer Visitor through the ACVVS program.

Each of our older people, waiting for a friendly visitor has a rich life story, a unique personality, and a warm heart that’s simply looking for connection. Here’s a glimpse into who you could be matched with:

• A lovely woman who enjoys reading, coffee and a good chart
• A sports fan who just wants to have a yarn and talk about sports and have a joke
• A stamp collector with a taste for history and reading
• A quiet, thoughtful man who was a bushy – nothing better than a good long drive to nowhere in particular.
• Another animal lover, this gentle lady enjoys bingo, birds, fish, cats, and dogs.
• A passionate Collingwood supporter, this gentleman also enjoys fishing and reading
• A history buff who likes a slow walk and a chat about NT history
• A warm-hearted Greek gentleman who would enjoy having someone to chat with, share stories, and build a genuine friendship

Visit just one hour once a fortnight — in their home, aged care home, or out in the community.

You’ll be supported every step of the way and matched with someone who shares your interests. Together, you’ll build a meaningful friendship that makes a real difference.

✨ Join us in helping older people age with grace and connection. ✨

Happy Grandparents Day for all our NT people this Sunday, and to all those Aunties, Uncles, Nans, Pops and various extended family members who step in to the role in our remote part of the world. And a special thank you to our volunteers for being the friend our elders need when family are far away.

International Day of Older Persons | 1st October 2025 ✨

Today, we honour the strength, wisdom, and invaluable contributions of older people around the world.

This year’s United Nations theme — “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-being, Our Rights” — reminds us that ageing is not a decline, but a powerful stage of life filled with potential and purpose.

At Ageing with Grace, we believe no one should age alone. Our dedicated volunteers and community programs work tirelessly to tackle social isolation and loneliness — helping older Australians feel connected, valued and supported every step of the way.

Let’s celebrate ageing with dignity, connection and grace. Today and every day ✨

Ever had a conversation that changed your day?
Sometimes, the most meaningful moments happen in the simplest ways - over a cuppa, a chat about old music, or just sitting in quiet company with someone who doesn't get many visitors.

That's what the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is all about.
It’s not about fixing anyone’s life - it’s about showing up. Listening. Laughing. Being present for someone who might otherwise feel forgotten.

And here’s the thing:
It’s not just good for the person you visit. It’s genuinely good for you, too!
You’ll hear stories that make you think differently.
You’ll grow empathy, patience, and perspective.
You’ll feel the kind of connection that social media just can’t give you.

We urgently need volunteers in:
📍 Darwin
📍 Katherine
📍 ACT
📍 Illawarra
📍 Victoria (various regions)

You don’t need special skills. Just a bit of time, and a kind heart. We would love volunteers who speak languages other than English too!
Visits can be once a week or fortnight - and we match you thoughtfully with someone you’re likely to click with.

If you’ve ever thought about giving back - this is the kind of giving that gives right back to you.

Or tag a friend who'd be perfect for this.

Loneliness Awareness Week | 4–10 August

Loneliness can affect anyone - at any age, in any stage of life. But for many older people, especially those living alone, it can be a daily reality.

At Ageing with Grace, we believe no one should feel forgotten or alone. Through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, we match kind-hearted volunteers with older people who simply want connection, conversation, and friendship.

One visit, one chat, one cup of tea - it all makes a difference. đź’›

This Loneliness Awareness Week, let’s start a conversation about connection.
