Care to Share with Rotaract Club of CINEC Campus 🙌

This initiative seeks to build bridges with Rotaract clubs around the world and to learn from one another by each sharing one of our favourite/most successful projects via online call.

It was such a pleasure connecting with the Rotaract club of CINEC Campus, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 and we thank everyone who participated! A special shout-out to Shambhavi Kaushik, our joint International Service Director, for being the lead project coordinator!

In light of the recent flooding disaster in Nepal, leaving many families grieving, infrastructure washed away, and lives lost too soon, we wish to send our deepest condolences to all affected.

We have been working on finding the most effective ways for us to support the response efforts, and will be responding in 2 broad stages: Relief and recovery.

The current relief effort is acute, with rescue operations and basic goods (e.g., clothing, food) still urgent. To support all those working on the ground, we are fundraising through RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service); an Australian Rotary body who specialises in disaster relief, among other domains. If you wish to donate, you can find the link in our LinkTree (see our bio).

For the recovery phase, involving rebuilding over the long-term, we intend to work closely with our local Rotary and Rotaract partners in Nepal to support sustainable reconstruction projects.

Once more, we send our thoughts to everyone who has been affected, whether directly or indirectly. We also wish to recognise and thank the countless volunteers, rescuers, coordinators, community members, and others who have done their bit to help in what is a very difficult time.

Draw It Clean Winners' Art Workshop 🎨

Co-run by our friends at Silence Melbourne
, this was Phase 3 of a larger initiative:

Draw It Clean is a multi-component sustainability initiative that aims to promote the protection of Frankston's green spaces, all the while giving a spotlight to our youth to showcase their creativity!

Here are the project phases:

🖌️ An art competition open to all primary and secondary school students in Frankston City centred on the theme, 'My City, My Green', which asked students to draw their favourite natural space in the city and a favourite memory there.

🏅 Judging of 5 winners divided into age groups with the criteria of skill, creativity, and personal relevance.

🎨 Winners' Art Workshop - our 5 winning students won 2 paid places each for a workshop where they received the opportunity to create their own take-home artwork using street art techniques. This workshop was run by the wonderful team at Silence Melbourne

📢 Promotional campaign centred in Frankston on the importance of protecting our green spaces, highlighting their importance to our community through our students' artworks.

🤝 Community cleanups at each location drawn by our winners.

We have now completed Phase 3 of 5 and look forward to continuing working on this important community initiative!

The Ranch Winter Sleep-Out ❄️

Last night, some of our club members spent the night sleeping in their cars. The temperature was 4° Celsius, and members slept on their car seats, waking up repeatedly throughout the night - cold, uncomfortable, and often both. But the kind of discomfort they faced was mild to say the least, compared to the reality of losing your home and being forced to live out of your car (if you are lucky enough to have one). But the latter is the reality for a growing number of people on the Mornington Peninsula. And this small experience was one way for us to try and build just a window of understanding into what that might be like.

This event was organised by Southern Peninsula Community Support , The Ranch Adventure Park , and sponsors, bringing hundreds of community members together to spend a night in their cars in the middle of winter. The event aimed to raise awareness for what is an alarming but largely invisible issue in our community, and to build empathy for those doing it tough.

Before the night began, we ate the same meals often dished out to vulnerable groups by the Southern Peninsula Community Support Centre, consisting of soup and an 'easy food pack'. Then, we had to opportunity to hear from some wonderful leaders speaking about homelessness on the Peninsula, what is being done to combat it, and what still needs to be done.

Though this experience in no way emulates that of truly sleeping rough, it has been a prompt for reflection and a call to action for all of us in our communities to do what we can to support those who slip through the cracks in our society. Thank you to Southern Peninsula Community Support Centre and all others working in this space, your work is amazing and very much needed. 💙

Today we met with Keira and Charlotte from Peninsula Rotaract who very generously dropped off essential toiletries, cleaning products and coats for our Winter Coat Drive. Rotaract is a global organisation that empowers students and young professionals to create positive change in their local communities and around the world. Toothbrush+ Drop-off to Westernport Community Support Centre 🪥

This morning was spent dropping off hundreds of personal hygiene products to Western Port Community Support , including toothpaste, menstrual products, shampoo & conditioner, and other items, like winter jackets.

We are proud to announce we have now collected over $8,000 dollars worth of products, amounting to 2300 individual items! 🎉

These get delivered on a rotating basis to the 4 Community Support Centres in Frankston and on the Mornington Peninsula, where they then get redistributed to vulnerable groups, such as low-income or homeless community members.

None of this would be possible without our community partners, who we work with to source these products. 🙌 So a big thank you to:
