Such a perfect weather day for our 3931 Mornington BeachPatrol clean at Mothers Beach yesterday.
Due to the festival also lots of good engaging conversations with the public. People are usually intrigued by Litter Stopper and of course without data, there's diddly squat any of us can do towards positive change. We must have measurable outcomes because the storms will keep coming.
Thank you to 16 awesome volunteers... in addition to the names below, Pauline, Gill, Lois, Anne, Janice and Roy. The group collected a combined 36kg of rubbish, much of which should've been recycled.

(Nurdles are the building blocks of plastic, 3 - 6mm in diameter each weighing 0.02g produced in factories from fossil fuels which are blown into 25kg bags and loaded into shipping containers lined in plastic for transportation to factories making all the plasticware we desire around the world. 1400 shipping containers in total fall off ships annually globally. Through currents and wave action and through urban systems is why we find them on our beaches. They're on all Port Phillip Bay beaches and they resemble fish eyes hence their risk to our marine life and hence to us).

Next clean is Sunday July 5 at Mills Beach which will mark 2 years for me as group leader. At Mills at my first clean Pauline was the only volunteer and she left early because the weather was disgusting but I continued and picked up about 20 dead pufferfish in 20 mins and put them on the wall looking out to sea, also looking disgusted.

Thank you for all you do to keep our beaches clean, whether as a volunteer or advocate, whether it's talking or writing letters or emails, we can make a difference if we unite, and maybe also find our tribe.
Say no to single use plastic. If just half the takeaway coffee drinkers used a keep cup it would save 200 - 250 million coffee cups from landfill here in Victoria. Victoria uses about a third of all Australian takeaway coffee cups (~1.5 - 1.8 billion annually). If nothing changes nothing changes.
