Usually community posts are polished, inspirational and serious…

But behind the scenes?
It’s pressure, planning, advocacy, funding conversations, snacks on the table, hard discussions and trying not to lose the plot 😭🎬

At the heart of Village Response Collective and why One Moana exists is our young people.

The issues our Pasifika youth face today deserve people willing to have the hard conversations, bring things to the table and move before funding even lands.

Because this work is important.

A lot of community work starts long before anyone sees the outcome.
It starts with talanoa, strategy, heart and people who genuinely care enough to keep showing up.

If we’re not willing to do the work for our communities… then who will?

So yes… sometimes we edit our meetings like a reality TV show because laughter honestly helps carry the weight of the work too 😂

What a privilege it was to be invited to speak at this wonderful community event hosted by Brimbank Pasefika. 🤎

A special thank you to Rev Samani for your kind words and encouragement. It’s awesome to see what you’re building and serving.

To Margaret and the Brimbank Pasefika team, thank you for the incredible hospitality, thoughtful gifts, and the care that went into every detail of the day. It was clear how much love and dedication went into creating such a meaningful event for our community.

I’d also like to acknowledge the amazing Village Response Collective volunteers who gave up their Saturday to represent VRC and serve our people. Your commitment never goes unnoticed, and I am so grateful for each of you.

Fa’afetai tele lava to everyone involved. 🤎🌴

Women Deliver 2026 | 28.04.26

Another informative day at the conference. A theme for me was assessing where community leadership is recognised and resourced.

The Como leadership session was practical. It clarified purpose and gave structure to the 5 Ps of leadership.

* Purpose
* Power
* Position
* Practice
* Presence

The Feminist Data session confirmed a clear pattern. Communities do an adequate job to define, build, and mobilise. What is missing is resourcing.

A Solomon Islands speaker shared years of unfunded work. Support came only after a funder visited.

* Institutions hold power
* Communities must prove their reality
* Data is used to gatekeep

This is extraction. It is top down.
There is strong language on feminist practice. Less evidence in methods.

* Fund before proof
* Trust lived experience
* Design with community
* Redefine data for first time funding

Care must show up in how data is collected and funded. In Pasifika contexts, care is tied to service. It is intrinsic. Systems would shift if applied broadly.

Women Deliver conference 2026

6,000 delegates have gathered for Women Deliver 2026, the world’s largest convening for gender equality, and the first time it has been held in Australia and across Australasia.

I am here as one of four Pasifika scholarship recipients supported by Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria. As a Pasifika woman living in Melbourne, I have been reflecting on my role in this space, as CEO and Executive Founding Director of Village Response Collective, as an advocate for community-led change, and as a sister connecting with Pasifika women from across Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific, and the diaspora.

I have been intentional about where I place my energy, who I speak with, and which conversations will create practical and progressive outcomes for our communities. What stands out is the strong alignment between Pasifika and migrant communities, grounded in shared values of resilience, collective responsibility, and connection. I see this as weaving, where each person brings a thread and together we create something useful and enduring.

This experience reinforces that Pasifika communities must not only be present in these spaces, but connected, strategic, and visible. I look forward to continuing this talanoa with

Signing this petition takes less than 20 seconds, but the impact it could have on our Pasifika youth could be significant.

How?

Because we are petitioning for a meeting with the Minister for Justice to demand transparency around decisions that directly impact our community.

By signing, you are helping send a clear message:
yes, there are real issues Pasifika communities are facing, and yes, we want change.

This petition is also about showing the scale of our community, how many of us are here, and how many lives are being affected by decisions being made without us at the table.

Our young people deserve better.
Our families deserve to be heard.
Our community deserves transparency, action, and a seat at the table.

Sign the petition. Stand with our Pasifika youth. 🤎

🚨 OUR YOUTH DESERVE BETTER AND WE CAN’T STAY SILENT 🚨

Right now, decisions are being made about our communities without enough voices from our communities in the room. That’s why this petition matters.

Signing isn’t just adding your name to a list it’s adding weight to a collective voice calling for:
✨ Fair representation
✨ Real support for Pasifika youth
✨ Solutions that come from culture, community and lived experience — not just statistics

Too often our young people & Pasifika Community as a whole are spoken about in headlines, but not heard in decision-making. This petition is one small but powerful way we show that we are paying attention, we care, and we expect better.

If we want change, we have to show up not just in conversation, but in action.

✍🏽 Take 30 seconds. Add your name. Stand with community.

Our voices are getting louder and they’re being heard.

A heartfelt thank you to the first and only Pasifika Member of Parliament for standing in support of the One Moana Action Plan and bringing this conversation into Parliament, where it belongs.

This is bigger than a moment. This is a movement.

📊 Our Pasifika population is growing rapidly
📊 We contribute significantly to the economy
📊 Yet our youth remain overrepresented in the youth justice system

That’s not a coincidence. That’s a gap in understanding.

For too long, decisions have been made about our community without being made with us.

That’s exactly what the One Moana Action Plan is here to change.

At Village Response Collective, alongside United Pacific Council Victoria, we are calling for what should already exist:

👉 A seat at the table
👉 A direct conversation with the Minister of Youth Justice
👉 Solutions led by those who understand our people

We have reached out.
We are calling for a meeting.
And we will continue to push until our voices are not just heard but respected in the decisions that shape our future.

If you believe in better pathways for our Pasifika youth…
If you want stronger outcomes for the next generation…
