Dementia Action Week may be over, but the conversation shouldn’t stop. 💜

This year’s theme was “It’s time to talk about dementia” and that’s exactly what we did.

We brought people together to talk, learn, ask questions and raise awareness about dementia in our community. A big thank you to Vines Road Community Centre, our guest speaker Dr. Michael Angputra, local service providers, our staff and everyone who joined us and helped make these conversations possible.

At AMCS, we know how important it is to have a safe space to talk. Through our dementia groups, workshops and programs, we continue to support people living with dementia and their carers throughout the year.

So, let’s keep talking. 💬

Talk to a family member, friend or colleague. Ask questions. Listen. Learn. Share.

Dementia Action Week may be one week, but raising awareness is something we can all be part of every day. 💜

AMCS have come together with 14 non-profit organisations who all have touch points across palliative care. Together we form the ‘Victorian Palliative Care Alliance’ with a focus on the delivery of quality palliative care for all Victorians. The alliance is calling for urgent action to address significant inequities in access to palliative care following the release of the State of Palliative Care in Victoria 2026 report.

Maryanne Tadic, our CEO, says "Older Australians should be able access the care they need, when they need it most, including Palliative Care. We call for Palliative Care to be resourced and available at the right time, in the right place, and in a way that is culturally appropriate for our diverse communities."

🏡 Have questions about how a Support at Home budget works?

Here are a few important things to know:

📅 Support at Home budgets are provided every three months, with quarters starting in July, October, January and April.

💰 10% of an ongoing quarterly budget is allocated to care management, which supports the planning and coordination of care and services.

🔄 Unspent funds can carry over to the next quarter, up to $1,000 or 10% of the quarterly budget — whichever is higher.

📋 The amount of funding a person receives depends on their Support at Home classification level. There are eight ongoing classification levels, based on assessed care needs.

At AMCS, we believe you should understand your funding, how your budget is being used and the care and services available to you. We’re here to make that information clear and easier to understand.

💬 Have a question about Support at Home? Drop it in the comments and we’ll help point you to the right information.

📢 Changes to Personal Care from 1 October 2026

From 1 October 2026, eligible Support at Home participants will no longer need to make a contribution towards Personal Care services.

Personal Care will move into the Clinical Supports category, which is fully funded by the Australian Government for eligible participants.

What does this mean for eligible participants?

If you receive Personal Care through your Support at Home funding, you may no longer need to contribute towards the cost of this service from 1 October.

Personal Care can include support with everyday activities such as showering, dressing, grooming and other personal needs.

At AMCS, we’re here to help our clients understand changes to Support at Home and what they may mean for their individual care and services.

Have questions about what this change means for you?

Speak with your Care Partner or get in touch with AMCS to learn more.

🚗 Sometimes, staying independent starts with simply being able to get where you need to go.

Transport is one of the services available under Support at Home. It can help eligible older Australians continue with everyday activities, attend appointments and stay involved in their community.

Depending on a person’s assessed needs and care and services plan, transport support may help with:

🏥 Getting to medical and health appointments

🛍️ Shopping and everyday activities

🤝 Attending social and community activities

🌏 Taking part in cultural and community activities

Having access to transport can mean more than getting from one place to another. It can help an older person continue doing things for themselves, maintain social connections and participate in their community.

Under Support at Home, transport sits within the Independence service category and is available based on a person’s assessed needs and care and services plan.

Looking for a Support at Home provider that understands your individual, cultural and everyday needs? Talk to the AMCS team about your care and the support available to you.

What does more than a decade of volunteering look like? 💜

For some of our AMCS volunteers, it means years of showing up, building connections and giving their time to older people in our community.

We were proud to see our long-serving volunteers recognised at the Parliament of Victoria for their incredible years of service.

Meet the volunteers we celebrated and read more about this special recognition 👇

Open conversations about dementia can make such a difference. 💜 They help build understanding, challenge misconceptions and make it easier for people living with dementia, their families and carers to feel connected and supported.

That’s why coming together during Dementia Action Month is so meaningful. We’re proud to continue this partnership for the third year and bring this event to your space, creating an opportunity for the local community to connect, learn and have conversations that matter.

A special thank you to all the volunteers and everyone involved in making the day such a success. So much work happens behind the scenes to bring an event like this together, and we truly appreciate everyone who played a part.

An important update for older Australians, families and carers. 🏡

The Australian Government has announced that the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) will continue until 30 June 2029, providing greater certainty for people who rely on entry-level support to live independently at home and stay connected with their community.

CHSP supports older Australians with everyday needs such as domestic assistance, transport, meals, social support, home maintenance and allied health services.

The extension means CHSP will continue while the Australian Government consults on the future of entry-level in-home aged care.

At AMCS, we’ll continue to support our clients and communities and share further information as it becomes available.
