Ladder

Ladder We level the playing field for young people to thrive. Ladder is the official charity of the AFL Players and the Toyota AFL Finals Series.

With the backing of the AFL industry and the players themselves, our programs not only assist young people transition to independent living, but also help restore their belief in themselves and give them the confidence to follow their dreams, free of the debilitating impact of homelessness. AFL players past and present are involved as staff, youth mentors, advocates and volunteers to deliver fitn

ess sessions, or simply give their time where needed to support Ladders programs. We currently have projects in Victoria, South Australia and Geelong, with a vision to operate in every region in Australia that hosts an AFL team by 2020

This National Volunteer Week, we are recognising and celebrating the incredible volunteers who continue to show up for young people across our communities.

From mentoring and community support to opening doors and creating opportunities, our volunteers play an important role in helping young people feel supported, connected and believed in.

Thank you for your time, compassion and commitment to helping young Australians build confidence, connection and pathways forward.

Together at Ladder, we are changing the game for young people.

From Ladder and the young people we support, we want to wish all the AFL players the best for the upcoming 2026 AFL season. Created by AFL Players nearly 20 years ago, Ladder exists to support young people at critical times in their lives. As the official charity of the AFL Players, we want to thank all players for their continued support and the impact that they have on our young people.

Ollie made the call to turn things around. After family challenges and time away from school, he joined the Ladder program with some clear goals. Since then, he’s completed a TAFE electrical course, secured a casual hospitality job and is now working towards an apprenticeship. Ollie’s story is proof that with the right support, determination can spark real change.

Maya’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible with the right support. Through Ladder, Maya built confidence, found her voice, and discovered a pathway that led to a new school environment and a traineeship in early childhood education. “It’s more than just jobs and school. It’s all about working out what you want to do and how to get there.” We’re so proud of you, Maya!

As we head into the new year, it’s a good chance to reflect on the year that was and set ourselves up for success in 2026. One of the first things we do at the start of each Ladder program is set S.M.A.R.T. goals. These are both big and small and give us something to work towards. What goals have you set for yourself in the new year?
