DSRM is very proud to congratulate our Programs Coordinator and Treasurer, PETER SUMPTER on receiving the Alan Ticehurst Memorial Service to Sport Award at the North Queensland Sports Foundation's NQ Sportstar Awards held in Cairns on 16 Oct. Peter, along with 3 other Awardees were honoured with this special award for Service to Sport in North Queensland. Coach of the Mackay Machines Wheelchair Basketball Team for 2 decades, Peter's philosophy on sport includes inclusivity, communication, teamwork and wellbeing. As a coach, Peter builds a wonderful sense of belonging among the Mackay Machines Wheelchair Basketball Team by treating all players as family. He understands that for many people with disability, being part of a sporting team provides much more than physical activity or competition, it creates friendship, confidence, purpose and a sense of belonging. Congratulations Peter on your award and thank you for the endless energy you put into Disabled Sport & Rec Mackay.

We would like to congratulate Amy Renton who was a finalist in the North Queensland Sports Foundation's Para Athlete Of The Year at the NQ Sportstar Awards held in Cairns on Saturday 17 October. A year 7 student at St Patrick's College Mackay, Amy is a talented Equestrian athlete who is someone to keep an eye on in the future 🤩

We would like to congratulate our member Roscoe McDonnell for being nominated as a finalist in the Masters of Sport for the North Queensland Sports Foundation's Sportstar Awards held in Cairns on Saturday 17 October. A distance runner, Roscoe has recently performed in Masters competitions in Mackay, Darwin, Tonga and Abu Dhabi and returned home with a swag of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Congratulations to Matt Sheppard NQ Para-Athlete of the Year. Matt recently perfomed at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in Athletics - Shotput and broke the Australian Record 💫

Douglas Shire Council’s Matt Shepherd picks up $1000 cash and the para-athlete trophy after his efforts at this year’s Commonwealth Games! 💚💛

We are proud to see local Mackay boy and member of DISABLED SPORT & REC MACKAY INC., Brayden Foxley-Conolly, achieving his sporting goals. Brayden started with our Mackay Machines wheelchair basketball program when he was in primary school. Being a natural to sport, Brayden excelled in basketball. When he finished high school, Brayden moved to Brisbane to pursue Wheelchair Rugby. Currently he trains and plays with the Wheelchair Rugby Queensland and Australian Steelers Wheelchair Rugby teams. Many thanks to Dylan Alcott Foundation's Nike Academy for helping Brayden along his sporting journey. Keep an eye on Brayden Foxley-Conolly, especially leading up to the 2032 Paralympic Games held in Brisbane.

We would like to congratulate Harrup Park Cricket Club on being selected as a finalist in the Sports Excellence category of the NQ Sportstar Awards! 🎉

This is wonderful recognition of the club’s ongoing commitment to sport and the Mackay community.

The team at Harrup Park has done a fantastic job developing and supporting the Great Barrier Reef Arena facility in Mackay, creating an outstanding venue for cricket, sport and the wider community.

The facility is a wonderful asset for our region and provides opportunities for athletes, sporting organisations and the community to enjoy high-quality sporting facilities right here in Mackay.
