Kidney failure (also known as stage 5 kidney disease), occurs when a person’s kidney function drops below 15%.

This means that the kidneys can no longer filter a person’s blood sufficiently, and they will eventually need kidney replacement therapy (dialysis or a kidney transplant) to stay alive.
