If you’ve been following Have You Seen The Old Mackay over the years, you might be wondering what’s happened.

Due to circumstances outside our control (we’ve mentioned it a few times here), we’ve had to start fresh with a new page.

But the heart of HYSTOM hasn’t changed.

Same stories.
Same memories.
Same love for Mackay.

This new page is now the official home moving forward Mackay - Echoes of the Past.

A huge thank you to everyone who has already followed, shared, and supported the new page. the response has been incredible. Special shoutout to Glen, who is, as usual, doing an amazing job bringing this all back to life.

If you were part of the original community, we’d love for you to join us again and help spread the word so others can find their way back too.

Welcome home 🤍

Woohoo! Glen’s new page is live! Please go follow him there. This page will stay live until we can merge them if Meta sorts out the mess. Have a great weekend.

Welcome to our new page replacing "Have you seen the Old Mackay". The old page will still be searchable with over 13 years of photos and stories. We were unable to revive it after hacking with Administrative privileges due to Meta Inaction

Here is a treat for us! Bronwyn has shared some pics for us that originally belonged to her grandmother Elizabeth Wheeler (nee Hoffman) daughter of George and Bessie Hoffman.

“First photo is private zoo that was on top of McGuire's Hotel Mackay

I urge us all to rummage through old photos and share them as they are gold.

BIG NEWS!!

As a lot of you are aware, we have been dealing with this page being hacked, then returned, then hacked again. Since July last year, we’ve tried and tried to appeal to Meta to restore it. At this stage we are in limbo.

So, after a lot of thought, Glen has decided it’s time to start a fresh chapter so we can keep sharing and preserving the memories and history we all love. He is the person who built this Page from scratch and the one we want to see keep posting.

Glen would like YOU to help name his new Page

What should his new historical Mackay page be called?

Comment your suggestion below. The name chosen will become the official page name, and the winner will receive one of Glen’s Mackay history books as a thank you.

Let’s build something together again ❤️

Entries close next Friday 27 February 2026.

Tell all your friends and thank you for sticking with us.

Wendy is looking for some help to identify family members.

Hi, we have discovered these 2 Royal Life Saving Society medals amongst my mother’s possessions. They belong to S.Wells 1929 and N. O’Neil 1930, I would love to return them to their rightful families. My grandfather John Lind had them in his possession, he was an Ambulance Bearer in the 1920’s and beyond. Grandpa worked from the Seaforth Ambulance House which could bear some meaning as to why he had them.

Does anyone know who their families could be? Can anyone offer suggestions of who I can contact.

Thanks Wendy

From Chris …

Have located a stash of red clay bricks, 6.5 inches square, 2.5 inches thick. I believe they are 1900’s or earlier. Could any one tell me where they were made?

There is no brand that I can see so far. They weigh 3 kg each and are very distinctive. They were part of an old dairy that had finished when friend purchased the farm in 1920.
