"What? People practise public speaking?"

Yep. Every 2nd and 4th Monday in Ipswich.

Most people assume confident speakers were just born that way. The truth is a lot less glamorous. They turned up, had a go, got some honest feedback, and came back to try again.

That feedback is the secret sauce. On Monday night, District Director Ben ran the education session at Heart of the City Toastmasters on exactly that: how to give good feedback and evaluations.

Next meeting, Club President Jeanette takes the floor on effective body language.

Giving Feedback is just as important as Speaking!

Think Toastmasters is just about giving speeches? 🤔

Here's the bit most people don't know about.

Every time someone speaks, another member stands up and evaluates them. Live, in front of the room. It's a speech of its own, and it teaches you to listen properly, notice what actually matters, and say it in a way that lifts people up.

It's why members say they get as much from giving evaluations as they do from receiving them. And it's why they get better at speaking: when you learn to spot habits in others, you start spotting them in yourself. 🎯

This Monday is our Guest Open House at Heart of the City Toastmasters. Ben McCormick, our District Director, is presenting "Introduction to Evaluation". The perfect first look at how to give effective feedback.

Remember your first time speaking in front of a room? 😬

Our newest member just did theirs. And nailed it!

Here's what went down at Heart of the City Toastmasters last meeting:

🎤 Icebreaker done! Our newest member stood up and told us who they are. The hardest speech you'll ever give, and it's behind them now.
📈 Speech number two! Our second newest member is already back for more. That's how it starts.
⭐ Five stars! Our Area Director dropped in to evaluate the club and gave us full marks. We'll take it!
❤️ Fred delivered his speech, "A Little Bit of Discipline, A Little Bit of Love." His message: growth and mastery need both. From the people around you, and from yourself. Too much of one and you burn out. Too much of the other and you stand still.
