Foresight Australia

Foresight Australia Foresight works to CURE blindness, PREVENT the conditions that lead to blindness and EMPOWER local communities to deliver essential eye care services.

For more than 35 years, Foresight has worked with countries in the Asia Pacific region providing eye surgery, medical equipment, training and preventative health programs. Foresight works with local governments so that our sight saving programs are eventually delivered by local surgeons and health workers. Foresight is a member of Vision 2020, the National body working in partnership to prevent a

voidable blindness and improve vision care, and collaborates with partner NGO’s and health providers worldwide. While Foresight receives some government funding we rely heavily on donations from the public to deliver our essential eye care services to the Asia Pacific region.

Avoidable vision loss isn't only a problem overseas.
In Griffith NSW, people were waiting 131 days to see an eye specialist. Some waited nearly a year for surgery.
Today that waitlist is at 52 patients — below NSW Ministry of Health benchmarks — because Foresight trained local Aboriginal Health Workers to identify problems early.

Last year we gave a boy named Lodowyk his first pair of glasses in West Sumba, Indonesia. He moved to the back of his classroom — because for the first time, he didn't need the front.
This year he came back to our outreach. And brought his sixteen-year-old sister.
Ezry had never complained about her vision. She didn't know there was anything wrong. Her prescription came back at minus ten.
She put on her glasses and stood there quietly. Just looking around at a world she'd never properly seen.
Your donation before 30 June is fully tax-deductible. $50 gives someone glasses. $250 funds a surgery.

A short surgery can change everything.

Today, we watched a young patient see clearly for the first time—and smile.

This is why we’re here. And there are many more still waiting.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

This is the reality in Sumba.

Dozens of people waiting patiently for their turn—many for the first eye check of their lives.

Behind every face is a story… and the hope of seeing clearly again.

We’ll keep going until everyone has that chance. 💙

We’re on the ground in Sumba this week.

Families are walking hours to reach our clinics—many receiving eye care for the very first time.

Every screening, every pair of glasses, every referral is a step toward restoring sight and independence.

Thank you for making this work possible 💙

In Australia, access to eye care is still unequal.

Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities face barriers to regular eye examinations, leading to higher rates of preventable vision loss.

Foresight is working with local health services in regional NSW to:

✔ Train Aboriginal Health Workers
✔ Expand eye screening programs
✔ Improve early detection of eye disease

By empowering local healthcare teams, we help ensure eye care becomes more accessible in remote communities.

Together, we can close the gap in vision health.

Did you know?

Around the world, millions of people live with blindness — yet most cases are preventable or treatable.

The leading causes include:

• Cataracts
• Uncorrected refractive errors
• Diabetic eye disease

Simple interventions — such as cataract surgery or prescription glasses — can restore sight and dramatically improve quality of life.

At Foresight, we focus not only on treatment but also on training local healthcare workers, so communities can continue providing eye care long after our teams leave.

Because sustainable solutions change lives for generations.

Meet the volunteers restoring sight around the world.

Foresight’s work is made possible by dedicated ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses and health workers who volunteer their time and expertise.

Many of our doctors travel to remote communities where eye care services are limited or unavailable.

Their work includes:

• Performing sight-restoring cataract surgery
• Training local healthcare workers
• Screening children and adults for eye disease
• Building sustainable eye care systems

Every volunteer helps bring us closer to a world where no one lives with avoidable blindness.

💙 Thank you to our incredible volunteers.
