𝑇𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝐵𝑖𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑎 – 𝐹𝑎𝑟𝑣𝑎̈𝑙 𝐵𝑖𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑎!
Birgitta Sharpe 1940 – 2025
Det är med tungt hjärta vi förmedlar Birgitta Sharpes bortgång. Birgitta somnade fridfullt in i sitt hem i Greenwich natten till söndagen 6 juli. Hon blev 84 år.
Birgitta var en fantastisk människa med ett starkt engagemang inom den svenska gemenskapen i Sydney. Hon var med och startade Svenska Kyrkan i Sydney, Svenska Klubben och Swedish Council of NSW (SCONSW) och stöttade folkdanslaget Linnea, Svenska Skolan och SiS (före detta Svenska Damklubben) där hon var hedersmedlem. Ja, hon stöttade allt som hade med Sverige att göra i Sydney.
Birgitta hade en djup och innerlig tro, och hennes insatser för Svenska kyrkan i Sydney och Australien, och även i Sverige, är ovärderliga.
Birgittas tro var inte begränsad till kyrkan, utan hon hade också en innerlig tro på människan. Hennes goda gärningar för människor går bortom organisations- och landsgränser. Hon var en sann humanist, varmhjärtad, vänlig, generös med sin tid - hon lyssnade alltid och hennes råd var eftertänksamma och kloka. Hennes dörr var öppen, både till sitt hem och till sitt hjärta.
Birgittas lyskraft inom den svenska gemenskapen i Sydney kan inte nog betonas – och den kommer aldrig att slockna.

Birgitta Sharpe 1940 – 2025
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Birgitta Sharpe. Birgitta passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 6, in Greenwich. She was 84 years old.
Birgitta was a fantastic person with a strong commitment to the Swedish community in Sydney. She was the driving force behind the creation of the Swedish Church in Sydney and helped start the Swedish Club and the Swedish Council of NSW (SCONSW) and supported the folk-dance group Linnea, the Swedish School and SiS (formerly the Swedish Women's Club) where she was an honorary member.
Birgitta had a deep and heartfelt faith, and her efforts for the Church of Sweden in Sydney and Australia, and in Sweden, are invaluable.
Birgitta's faith was not limited to the church, but she also had a strong faith in humanity. Her charitable deeds for people go beyond organisations and national borders. She was a true humanitarian, warm-hearted, kind, generous with her time - she always listened, and her advice was thoughtful and wise. Her door was open, both to her home and to her heart.
Birgitta's brilliance within the Swedish community in Sydney cannot be overstated - and her light will never fade.
