My article in today's Mercury. The recent debate around access fees, illegal parking and visitor numbers highlights a bigger issue: how do we ensure access to the mountain keeps pace with growing demand?

Practical solutions are needed including improved shuttle services, the proposed Halls Saddle transport hub, redevelopment of The Springs, and the principle that Tasmanians should pay less than interstate and international visitors if access fees are ever introduced.

All options should be on the table, including a cable car. Public safety must remain the priority, but we also need a long-term plan for one of Hobart's greatest natural assets.

If your business sends SMS messages, make sure you register your SMS Sender ID before the deadline on 1 July 2026.

Your SMS Sender ID is the name that appears as the sender of each message. Without it, your messages may appear unverified and be flagged as spam by customers.

The good news? It's straightforward to fix. Businesses simply need to register their sender ID with their telco or message provider before 1 July 2026.

Don't let unregistered messages undo the trust you have worked hard to build. Take action before the deadline.

01/06/2026

New cash payment rules came into effect on 1 January 2026, and the ACCC has released guidance to help businesses understand what the cash acceptance codes mean.

The rules apply specifically to supermarket and fuel retailers, requiring them to give customers a reasonable opportunity to pay in cash for in-person transactions under $500, between 7am and 9pm.

The codes do not apply to most other industries, and exemptions are available in some circumstances. Small businesses should check whether the rules apply to them, particularly if they operate under a larger brand or trademark.

With enforcement action beginning 1 July 2026, businesses are encouraged to review the guidance now.
