Riding For The Disabled Hervey Bay is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to teaching people with disabilities to ride horses.

At Riding for the Disabled Hervey Bay, our main goal is to teach both children and adults with all ranges of disabilities to ride horses. With safety as our first priority, we have small group lessons on quiet horses, and riders are assisted by experienced instructors and volunteers. Our facilties are wheelchair friendly and include a mounting ramp to assist with the mounting and dismounting of riders.

🤠🐴 YEEHAW! Our Western Sporting Day was a ripper! 🐴🤠

We’ve been busy at RDA Hervey Bay, so we’ve got a little catching up to do with our posts! 😅

Our riders saddled up last term for individual and team events, everyone got into the Western spirit with their best cowboy and cowgirl outfits, and we welcomed our wonderful sponsors and supporters for our Annual Sponsors Day! ❤️

Some of our sponsors even jumped into the action for our Dress Up a Sponsor Relay — and what great sports they were! 😂👏 We hope you had just as much fun as we did!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who makes days like this possible:

🐴 Sue & John from Phoenix Acres Equine Centre for supplying additional RDA-accredited horses so none of our riders missed out on competing while we rebuild our herd.

💰 The Barfly Club Hervey Bay. We Lie Where Others Fly. for surprising us with a generous $2,000 cheque, which went straight towards purchasing our beautiful new horse, Lulu! 🐴💕

💜❤️ RDA HERVEY BAY SHOW DAY 2026 — WHERE DO WE BEGIN?! ❤️💜

We are just SO proud. Proud of our participant riders, proud of our incredible horses, proud of our amazing volunteers, and proud of the community we have built together. 🥹🐴

Today was about so much more than ribbons and results. It was about celebrating every achievement, big and small, and there were SO many!

✨ Perfect salutes and beautiful dressage tests
✨ Riding off lead for a dressage test
✨ Nailing those correct trot diagonals
✨ Improvements in coordination, motor skills and problem-solving throughout the obstacle course
✨ Learning to manage nerves and regulate emotions before and during events
✨ Building confidence and communication by introducing themselves and their horses to the judges for the very first time
✨ And the SMILES… oh, the smiles! So many big, beaming, proud smiles! 😍

Every one of these moments represents hard work, courage, growth and determination. We hope our riders are as proud of themselves as we are of them. 💜

And our horses? They showed us what we already know — they are simply AMAZING. 🐴❤️

Our newest accredited RDA horse, Lulu, did absolutely fabulously with her rider, and we couldn’t be happier to see her beginning her journey helping our participants achieve their goals.

Our horse in training, Timon, was also a little champion in the volunteer obstacle class! It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce him to the atmosphere and activities of Show Day, and he took it all in his stride. We are so excited to see his journey continue! 🥰

Days like today remind us that RDA is about so much more than riding. It’s about confidence, connection, independence, inclusion, resilience and celebrating what each individual can achieve when they’re supported by an incredible team.

To our riders, horses, volunteers, families, supporters and everyone who helped make today possible — THANK YOU! From setting up and preparing the horses to cheering from the sidelines and celebrating every little win, today wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Thank you also to Ludlow Park Pony Stud for the lovey donation of a browband for Bambi, she looked fabulous . And also to the anonymous donations of second hand brow bands from community members.

Our hearts are full, our smiles are big, and we couldn’t be prouder of our RDA Hervey Bay family. 💜❤️

🐴💜 Term 4 is off to a fantastic start! ❤️

Our riders had lots of fun today with coaches Sue and John, getting in some valuable practice for our RDA Hervey Bay Show Day this Saturday! 🏆🎉

A huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who came out to support our riders and horses today. We couldn’t do it without you! 💜

Today was extra special as it was Lulu’s first official lesson day as an RDA accredited horse! 🐴✨ We’re so excited to see what this lovely girl achieves with her riders for the rest of the year.

🐴💜 Officially introducing Lulu! 💜🐴

We’re very excited to officially welcome Lulu to the RDA Hervey Bay herd!

After successfully completing her RDA Trial Checklist, Lulu is now officially an RDA horse and is ready to begin lessons next term. 🎉

Lulu has been settling into life at RDA beautifully, and we’re looking forward to seeing her develop her confidence and become a valued member of our team.

We’re also excited to be slowly but surely rebuilding our herd. Behind the scenes, our coaches and dedicated volunteer team have been busy searching for, assessing and training new horses to join us. Every new horse brings the potential to create more opportunities for people in the Fraser Coast community to develop their abilities, build confidence and enjoy the benefits of riding and horsemanship.

Day 2 of the Riding for the Disabled Association of Queensland Regional Workshop
Today we looked at conformation, measurements, suitability/selection process for RDA horses, including neurological tests and matching horses and riders with RDA legend, Sally Francis. Then we finished the workshop with clicker training horses with Jen Davy Purely Positive Training
Such valuable knowledge and experience shared over the weekend. We can’t wait to put what we have learned in practice with our RDA Hervey Bay herd. Look out horses, here we come 😉

🐴 Hands-On Learning at RDA! 🐴

It was wonderful to welcome Sam and her TAFE Animal Care students back to RDA today for another hands-on learning experience with our wonderful horses! 💙

The students had the opportunity to safely handle our horses and conduct thorough health assessments, gaining valuable practical experience while learning about the individual needs of horses in a real-world environment.

It was a really positive day of sharing our passion for horses, demonstrating safe handling techniques and showcasing the importance of operating at best practice in horse welfare. We love being able to share our knowledge and experience with the next generation of animal care professionals!

A huge thank you to Sam and her students for returning to spend the day with us. We hope you learned lots, enjoyed getting hands-on with our horses, and had as much fun as we did! 🐎❤️

And of course, thank you to our wonderful RDA volunteers for helping the day run so smoothly. Your support makes these opportunities possible and is so appreciated. 🌟
