***END OF AN ERA***
ISSUE 62 WILL BE OUR FINAL PRINT ISSUE

2018 is a big year of change at Bellydance Oasis.

Issue 62, to be published in May, 2018
will be the last print issue of Bellydance Oasis magazine.

Bellydance Oasis has been published continuously since July, 2000 and has been the only magazine dedicated to Middle Eastern Dance in Australia for many years. We are immensely proud of the incredible standard the magazine has reached; of the articles, interviews and photographs we have published and the events we have sponsored.

Print media, overall, is shrinking and changing. As a 100% volunteer committee, we need to take a step back from the huge commitment required to produce regular print issues in order to explore digital options for a digital magazine, our website and an international audience. We also need time to compile and publish the past interviews and the history of Australian bellydance contained in our archives; we would like this rich and valuable material to be more available. It is the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one.

Bellydance Oasis Inc. will continue to both support and be active in the bellydance community; to fulfil our goal to foster and promote an understanding of the diverse styles of Middle Eastern Dance and Performing Arts amongst the community, including dance styles inspired by and derived from Middle Eastern Dance.

As the founding designer and Director of Bellydance Oasis magazine, I would like to thank our founding editor, Ayesha, the current team of Kerry (Editor/Senior writer), Min (Subscriptions), Elizabeth (Accounts) Devi (Tribal) and Jilyan (Admin Support) and the many dancers, writers and photographers who have contributed articles or photographs. In particular we owe a huge debt of gratitude to you our loyal subscribers and advertisers who have supported us over the years.

Subscribers with outstanding issues due will be credited via Paypal in June.

We hope you have enjoyed reading Bellydance Oasis magazine over the years as much as we have loved putting it together, discovering and supporting amazing talent in Australia.

Follow our Bellydance Oasis page (which has almost 4,000 followers) and our Bellydance Oasis Community Group (organisers can post events directly) to keep in touch.

If you would like to advertise in this historic final issue, on sale during WAMED Festival please book by April 15.

And of course who will be our final cover girl? Stay tuned for more.

This is a bitter-sweet moment for me. While I am sad that a magazine to which I have dedicated 17 years of my life will no longer appear in print, I am excited that new projects may arise from the work we have put in. And I treasure deeply the many friends I have made in the dance community through the magazine.

Yours sincerely
Alma Sarhan
Director
Bellydance Oasis magazine

Most importantly come with an open mind and heart – For most belly dance is out of the ordinary. It isn’t like a spin class or step class, where you can learn the moves quickly. Belly dance is an art and in an introduction class you aren’t going to emerge a professional but you will learn the basics and hopefully love it!
