Teach For Australia Working for an Australia where education gives every child greater choice for their future.

We believe in equity in education – an Australia where your postcode does not determine your future potential, the opportunities available to you in life, or your ability to contribute to society. That's why our vision is of an Australia where education gives every child, regardless of background, greater choice for their future.

β€œTeach For Australia was the ultimate stepping stone to opening up a huge sense of possibility.”
Zid Mancenido (Cohort 2013) is now an independent consultant in education policy and initial teacher education. He calls teaching one of the hardest, but most rewarding, things he’s ever done and credits the program with shaping who he wanted to be as a leader in education.
We caught up with Zid at our National Alumni Summit, reconnecting with old friends and staying sharp on what it takes to keep advancing educational equity across Australia.

We commissioned education policy expert Dr Pete Goss to test whether schools that partner with Teach For Australia see better NAPLAN outcomes.
He analysed 653 schools from 2019 to 2025 using the NAPLAN value-add methodology, which compares each school’s results with results for students from similar backgrounds.
Year 9 value-add in TFA partner schools rose by 1.4 months of learning and schools that employed more TFA Associates and Alumni saw gains of 3.7 months.

In this clip, Teach For Australia alum Alison Eslake (Cohort 2021) reflects on one of the biggest mindset shifts she's made as a teacher: learning how to contextualise student behaviour.

Our CEO Edwina Dohle spoke with WA-based Associate, Kelly Fliedner, who has lead a program at her school to build her students' confidence and their belief that they belong in the creative industries. Alongside Perth's Centre For Stories, the program brings writers into the classroom to help students publish their own book, complete with a book launch.
"By the end of it, they can see themselves and call themselves writers."
We're very proud to celebrate our Associates like Kelly, who bring their real world experience and connections into the classroom. πŸŽ“

πŸ“£ New research out this week shows TFA partner schools are improving student outcomes.

Dr Pete Goss looked at 131 TFA partner schools against 522 comparable ones, tracking Year 9 Reading and Numeracy from 2019 to 2025. TFA partner schools saw stronger NAPLAN growth than comparable schools, with the strongest gains seen in schools with more TFA teachers and deeper engagement with the program.

Investing in exceptional teachers really does make a difference. We're grateful to every teacher and partner school whose work made this possible. πŸ’™

Congratulations to the winners of our 2026 Jane Hansen Excellence Awards, announced last night at our inaugural National Alumni Summit.
Our +1,700 Alumni are the lifeblood of our mission. Every day, they are using their immense effort and expertise to create change for our students: across their schools, but also in the wider community and system.
This is not easy work, and there are often as many steps backwards as forwards – which is why it’s important to pause and celebrate those that have persevered, and continued to innovate and push for improvement.
Across five categories, the 2026 winners are:
Classroom Impact – Bowden, for Kurious Beats, a music program to platform issues their students care about.
Policy and Strategy – Pearson, whose research into AI in schools prompted a NSW Government review of its impact on student learning and HSC assessment.
School Leadership – McLaurin, for eight years of work at Western Port Secondary College reintegrating students who had disengaged from school.
Advocacy and Innovation – Farrant, who built a STEM program with four remote schools around the offshore wind industry arriving on their doorstep.
Community Leadership – Stokes, for three years of conservation work with students at Hellyer College, in partnership with Friends of Don Reserve and Burnie Council.
Our thanks to The Hansen Little Foundation, whose support makes these awards possible.

As featured in the Shepparton News, Victoria Braithwaite spent her career as an engineer in Sydney. Then she left it all behind to retrain as a teacher through Teach For Australia, trading the city for Nathalia, a regional town 720km away.
"I was just really ready for a change and to explore something new," she says.
She joined the local football and netball club, built a life outside the classroom, and found a community that had everything she needed.
Swipe through Victoria's story. πŸŽ“

Meet Nicole Carter of the Leadership Development Program Cohort 2026, who took her skills from working in Queensland Government policy to the classroom. After moving 4,500km from Brisbane to Bunbury to pursue teaching, Nicole now brings that same strategic thinking to shaping how Science and HASS are taught to her class.
We're continually proud of the bold paths our LDP Associates take to get to the classroom and the fresh perspective they bring once they're there.
Applications for Cohort 2028 open soon, register your interest through the link in our bio πŸ”—

"I'm actually really brave," reflects Alysha Hermann of TFA Cohort 2025.
She finished Year 12 at 19 with a toddler by her side, never imagining where that path would eventually lead. Now she's the one standing at the front of the classroom, shaping the very future she fought for. πŸŽ“
