Melbourne Aboriginal Youth Sport and Recreation (MAYSAR), in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) and Koorie Youth Council (KYC) are rejuvenating the MAYSAR building to be an inclusive safe space for all Aboriginal youth.

Last week's sessions was fantastic and we're looking forward to hearing from more of you tomorrow afternoon. If you're a stakeholder or someone under the age of 18 come along and tell us what a safe space means to you.

Hey you mob! Did you know MAYSAR, Melbourne Aboriginal Youth Sport and Recreation Co-Operative in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service - VALS and Koorie Youth Council, is rejuvenating the MAYSAR building to create a safe and welcoming space for Aboriginal youth?

Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service is hosting 2 workshops in June to hear from young mob about what a safe space means for you!

Head on over to Aunty Bunta Community Room at VALS Preston from 4-6PM on Thursday 4 June or Friday 12 June and have your say to help make this deadly new space as good as it can be!

So inspiring to see young mob – including some of our own V***A staff members! – gather on Boonwurrung Country earlier this month for the Koorie Youth Summit 2026.

The summit is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 18 to 28, supporting them to come together, connect, discuss issues, learn and celebrate culture.

This year the theme was ‘Together, We’re Staunch: Our Culture, Our Power’ and featured keynote speakers Sue-Anne Hunter and Miss Kaninna.

Thank you to the Koorie Youth Council for organising this deadly opportunity for our next generation of staunch leaders.

🖤💛❤️💙🤍💚

Today is National Sorry Day - a day to remember, to acknowledge and to remind us of the atrocities inflicted on the Stolen Generations. We pay our respects to the Stolen Generations, but also acknowledge their strength and resilience. Today is a hard day, but also a day of reflections and a day that reminds us we still have a long way to go.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are over-represented in the system today, with over 20,000+ children in out-of-home care. They represent between 40% - 45% of all children in the out-of-home care system despite them making up around 6% of the total child population.

📞 If today brings up any emotions or trauma, please take the time out to yarn to someone you trust or you can call Yarning Safe N Strong on 1800 959 563, a 24/7 free, confidential and culturally safe support.

😱 Crazy!

Can you believe this time last week was the Koorie Youth Summit? Cannot believe it went by so quickly. Here’s some photos taken of Day 01 by the incredible Mob at .productions !

Spent the afternoon last week with a smoking ceremony at Willum Warrain Gathering Place to kick off the Summit! We also had Peta Hudson from Wunyun Indigenous Healing doing a workshop that afternoon with the delegates.

A nice, chill afternoon spent on country together, before the next two days got busy!

Big thank you to .productions for taking these photos!
