Tropics Early Learning Where little minds learn & thrive 🌿
Play based early learning from 6 weeks to 5 years
🤍 Community based | Inclusive | Nature inspired
📍 Malak, Darwin NT

Tropics Early Learning is a not-for-profit, community-run long day care centre based in the northern suburbs of Malak. We care for up to 90 children between 6 weeks and 5 years daily. We are open Monday to Friday 7:00am-6.00pm. Our centre is a warm and inviting and we work in partnership with our families to ensure the best outcomes for all children. The service uses the Early Years Learning framework (EYLF) to implement individual programs for each child. We have a range of engaging indoor and outdoor spaces to allow children to explore and learn in their own space at their own pace and time. WE LOVE PLAY!! Children should be taught how to think, not what to think and through play they gain the skills to explore, investigate, research, create and imagine! The children learn their capabilities through risk taking and also gain confidence in their environment. Our role as educators is to scaffold this learning, planning for development and providing guidance for the children. We believe in respecting our environment and that embedding sustainable practices will foster a generation who will respect and care for their world around them.

A splashy finish to the week! 💦

Fridays in Kindy and Preschool are for pouring, scooping, filling, tipping… and a little extra splashing!

The children enjoyed exploring the water activities, sending balls down the water slide and playing alongside their friends. So many opportunities to experiment and discover what water can do all while having plenty of fun. 💙

One book can open up so many conversations. 📚💛

Reading together might mean following the story, spotting a familiar animal or spending five minutes talking about one picture and that’s all part of the experience.

These little moments give children opportunities to hear new words, share their ideas and enjoy time together. There’s no rush to reach the last page. 🌿

Which book is getting the “read it again!” treatment at your house?

“Let’s pretend…” and a whole new story begins. 💛✨

Beyond the Play 🌿 Small world play gives children opportunities to create characters, imagine adventures and decide what happens next.

They might revisit something familiar or dream up something completely unexpected. As they explain their ideas and bring others into the story, there are opportunities to practise language, listen and work out how different ideas can fit together.

What little stories does your child love creating at home?

“Be careful!” is something we’ve all called out at the playground. 💚

Next time, try adding a specific question:
🌿 “Where could your foot go?”
🌿 “What can you hold onto?”
🌿 “Would you like some help?”

These prompts give children something practical to think about while you stay close and support them.

Save this for your next playground visit!

Grandparents’ Day is a chance for our little learners to share a piece of their Tropics world with the people who mean so much to them.

We’re looking forward to slowing down, playing together and making some lovely memories.

Join us on Friday 30 October, 9:30–11:00 am, for morning tea, bingo and stay and play time.

A little campsite. Big imaginations. ⛺🌿

Beyond the Play 💛 Pretend play gives children space to create their own stories, explore different roles and turn familiar experiences into something entirely their own.

A campsite setup can spark conversations about where to go, what to pack and who’s coming along. As children play together, there are opportunities to share ideas, negotiate roles and practise new language.

The setup is just the beginning, the children bring the adventure! ✨

Sometimes children jump straight into a new challenge. Sometimes they need a little time to watch, think and find their feet. 💚

On our Ninja Park visit, the children were encouraged to explore at their own pace, with educators nearby to support them.

There’s no rush to move on to the next thing. Having time to try is part of the experience. 🌿
