VoiceUp Australia

VoiceUp Australia VoiceUp Australia is about speaking up, exploding the myths, and raising awareness about childhood abuse

VoiceUp Australia is a voluntary group of survivors of childhood abuse and their supporters. We are an organisation based on self-support between adult survivors of childhood abuse. VoiceUp Australia was formed on the North Coast regional area of Coffs Harbour NSW, Australia in 2013. We are a support and advocacy group for adult survivors of all forms of child abuse – s*xual, physical, emotional a

buse & neglect in both institutions, families and society generally. We are a project of Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre, an organisation that makes the community and the people a reference point for getting things done and works to build community strength and resilience. The aim of our integrated and holistic approach to the implementation of Voice-Up Australia's programmes is to assist survivors to achieve a productive, rewarding and manageable life. We know that by building strength and resilience through support, education and advocacy, survivors in recovery can heal from their trauma history at mental, emotional, physical and spiritual levels. VoiceUp Australia is made up of survivors with culturally aware knowledge and skills that have been developed from both our lived experience and professional training and education in the field of complex trauma. We are determined to build links with organisations who incorporate the principle's of trauma informed care at all levels of service and provide support and education for for those organisations working towards trauma informed approaches.

Today on International Women’s Day we also remember the courage of Sinéad O’Connor, an extraordinary artist who used her voice for far more than music.

Long before the world was ready to listen, Sinéad spoke out about abuse within the Church. For telling the truth, she was mocked, shunned and pushed aside by many who didn’t want to hear what she was saying. Years later, much of what she bravely raised was finally acknowledged.

She was an artist of immense talent, but also a woman of fierce conviction and compassion. Her willingness to speak when it was dangerous to do so helped open conversations that others were too afraid to start.

Today we acknowledge Sinéad: her courage, her voice, and the truth she carried. 💜

No more hiding in plain sight. Well done Morecombe Foundation.

Under new laws named in honour of Daniel Morcombe, Queensland is establishing a public child s*x offender register.

The photos and personal details of reportable offenders who fail to comply with their obligations or hide from police will be listed on a newly established government website. It will arm parents with the information they need and make Queensland safer.

These new laws will help parents protect children who can’t protect themselves by putting the rights of victims ahead of offenders.

We've partnered with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to help keep Qld kids safe. For more information about the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and Day for Daniel, visit www.danielmorcombe.com.au

It’s 11 years today since VoiceUp‘s first public forum. It was an honour to have the Royal Commission make their first regional visit at the request of our embryonic group. We were blessed to have the support of Aunty Glendra Stubbs and Know More and in awe of the courage and candour of survivors, Paul and Michelle Cowan. Special thanks for the guidance of Chris Marks and the amazing organising power of Vicki O‘Dea and Anna Scott.

Our monthly support meeting is coming up this Wednesday 20th Nov. All survivors and supporters are very welcome.
