Win Howard OAM

Our very own former president has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in this years Kings Honours list for services to the community through various organisations. We know him best of course for his magnificent stewardship of our club, but he was a prolific giver of his time and wisdom to many other too!

Congratulations and very well deserved.

It's a blue moon! Tonight is the night when things are actually meant to happen! Did they? well come along to our monthly meeting tomorrow, the 1st of June at the Boambee East Community Centre from 7pm and find out. Everyone welcome.

(Nerd fact: Antares means "Not Mars" in Greek. Ares is the god of war that we now call Mars, and with it's reddish hue and brightness looks just the brightest star in the constellation of Scorpio. Ant, or antithesis, simply means not)

It's been a fun couple of weeks as incoming president with lots of personal media attention due to a recent award. I've been doing my best to plug our happy little band of astral travellers and managed to get us a mention in this article as well as on radio. Plenty of news for our next meeting in just a few days time, it promises to be action packed! See you on Monday at the Boambee East Community Centre from 7pm. Curious? Come along!

These three friends made a startling discovery while looking at the night sky. Now they've been published in Nature journal and awarded the Page Medal.

Tonight is Aurora night! Intense solar activity and crystal clear moonless sky is giving us all a treat tonight (12th of Nov) and members will be out harvesting photon across the region. Our next meeting should be a very colourful one indeed!

This shot was taken atop Green Bluff, 10km North of Coffs, which is seen here providing a not too subtle light dome to the right.

Tonight's the night! Or more accurately Tomorrow morning is. This lunar eclipse is exceptionally long which means that it will be darker than usual and well worth watching. It's a Western event which is of course not our best direction from Coffs, but if you can find somewhere with around a stretched hand spans view from the horizon due W, then you should be able to see the immersion side of partial and most if not all of totality. Good luck!
