ACTDSID are starting a new Advisory panel.

We want our members to be more involved in our work.

The Advisory Panel is for people with Down syndrome or an intellectual disability.

The Advisory Panel is only for ACT residents.

The Advisory Panel will help us with:

- Advocacy work
- Give us advice on projects, documents and ideas
- Share your experiences and feedback
- Attend workshops and meetings

This will be paid casual work. This means there will be no set hours.

If you would like to be more involved with our work, please let us know by Friday 3 July 2026.

Charlotte has a fantastic week in New York at COSP. She met wonderful advocates from around the world and worked alongside the amazing Australian contingent. Here are just a few of the photos from the week!

We would like to thank the Australian Human Rights Commission for supporting Charlotte’s participation at COSP this year.

While supporting Charlotte at COSP in New York, our CEO Shannon was given the opportunity to address the United Nations General Forum. She spoke about proposed NDIS legislative changes and the impact these changes will have on people with disability in Australia.

Charlotte’s next speaking engagement at the UN in New York was a presentation on behalf of Down Syndrome International. She spoke about human rights based care and support systems at an event called “Operationalising Care and Support Systems, Accelerating Action for the 2030 Agenda and Beyond” led by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The room was full of government officials and NGO representatives from around the world. Charlotte did a terrific job and spoke with emotion and confidence.

Thank you to Down Syndrome International for giving Charlotte this opportunity and we look forward to working with you in the future!

Charlotte was invited to make an intervention at the COSP Civil Society forum. She decided she wanted talk about inclusive employment, something she is very passionate about. To say she blew us away with the emotion in her intervention is an understatement! Amazing work Charlotte - we need you to keep “fighting for the rights of people with intellectual disability”

ACT Disability Advocate Charlotte Bailey has spent the last few days at the United Nations in New York. She has been attending COSP - the Convention of State Parties, representing ACT DSID, Down syndrome organisations from around Australia and Down Syndrome Australia.

COSP is four days of meetings at the United Nations building in Manhattan, where disability advocates, NGOs and governments from around the world meet to discuss the implementation of the UN CRPD - the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Charlotte’s first speaking engagement was at a round table where she spoke about what good care and support looks like to her. She spoke about the NDIS and what she needs to help her create a meaningful and independent like.

Charlotte was amazing! She presented to a room full of government officials and advocates from all over the world an spoke with confidence and emotion.

ATTENTION ALL EASY READ WRITERS AND USERS!

The 2026 International Easy Read Writing Competition is here! 🤩

The 2026 International Easy Read Writing Competition celebrates stories by and for adults with intellectual disability.

It helps grow the Easy Read genre and makes storytelling more inclusive for everyone.

This competition is an important step in supporting people with disability to take part in creative writing, storytelling, and Easy Read publishing internationally.

Entries close on: 1 November 2026.

Winners will be announced on 3 December 2026 on International Day of People with Disability.

The 'My Health Choices My Way' project, has launched a mascot competition for young people with intellectual disability.

They are looking for young people who:

- Have an intellectual disability
- Are aged between 12 and 28 years old
- Live in Australia.

The mascot should show good health practices, or anything related to health.

The competition closes on 30 June 2026.
The winner will receive an iPad!
