Founded in 1949 as the Catholic Italian Welfare Association as the first Italian association to assist in the growing population of Italians arriving to SA. In 1967 under the auspices of the Italian Vice-Consul the South Australian Italian Association was crea

ted to assist and create a social hub and cater for the large Italian community in SA. At present it is now home to the Italian Centre which proudly houses three peak Italian community organisations that are; Com.It.Es South Australia, Co.As.It and the Dante Alighieri Society.

For eight decades, Adelaide City FC has been more than a football club—it has been a symbol of the strength, resilience and contribution of the Italian community in South Australia. Generations of players, volunteers, supporters and families have helped build a legacy that extends far beyond the football pitch.

From its proud Italian heritage to its enduring impact on South Australian football, Adelaide City FC has inspired countless people through excellence, community spirit and a commitment to developing the next generation.

As we celebrate this historic achievement, we honour all those who have contributed to the club's success over the past 80 years and look forward to many more years of sporting excellence and community leadership.

SAIA congratulates Charlie Zollo on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours for his outstanding service to the community and to football.

Charlie has been a tireless advocate for the Italian community in South Australia and has made an enduring contribution through his leadership, dedication and volunteer service over many decades. As a former President of the South Australian Italian Association and a Life Member, Charlie has played a significant role in strengthening our organisation and fostering community spirit, cultural pride and connection.

This prestigious honour is a fitting recognition of Charlie's lifelong commitment to serving others and making a lasting difference in our community.

On behalf of the SAIA Board, members and the wider Italian community, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Charlie and his family on this well-deserved achievement.

Today we proudly celebrate Festa della Repubblica, commemorating the historic referendum of 2 June 1946 when the Italian people chose democracy and established the Italian Republic.

This special day is an opportunity to honour Italy's rich history, culture, and values, while celebrating the enduring contributions of Italian Australians who have helped shape our communities across South Australia and beyond.

Today, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of all who have served and continue to serve.

On this ANZAC Day we stand in reflection and gratitude, acknowledging the deep bonds between communities and the shared values of resilience, mateship, and remembrance.

We pay tribute to the ANZACs and all servicemen and women whose legacy lives on in the freedoms we cherish today.

Last Wednesday , we were proud to co-host with Consolato d'Italia Adelaide a vibrant celebration of Italian excellence rright here in Adelaide for Made in Italy Day 2026. 🇮🇹✨

This year’s theme, “Young Skills for Made in Italy,” saw The Carrington Function Centre transformed into a dynamic showcase of innovation, design, and technology—highlighting the incredible talent and forward-thinking spirit of Italian businesses.

It was also a fantastic opportunity for professionals and organisations to connect, exchange ideas, and build meaningful partnerships within our community.

A special thank you to Consul Ernesto Pianelli for his kind words and continued support, and to all participating companies who made the event such a success. Together, we continue to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and the global strength of Made in Italy.
